England Riding with High Confidence Levels Before ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

Nat Sciver-Brunt, the captain of England’s women’s team, is highly confident in her team’s ability to clinch the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 trophy. The hosts will commence their campaign against Sri Lanka on June 12 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

England, under the stand-in skipper Charlotte Dean, triumphed over the defending champions, New Zealand and India, in the 3-match T20I series at home by 2-1 respectively.

Excluding the associate nations like Ireland and Scotland, there are tougher opponents England should compete against, such as Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and New Zealand, in the Group B fixtures of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

‘Brilliance in Couple of Competitive Series’: Nat Sciver Brunt

Sciver-Brunt is confident that her team has gained immense exposure to tackle different pressure situations in both the New Zealand and India series. The 33-year-old strongly believes that learning will help them stay in a good position when competing against the toughest teams like South Africa and Australia.

“Yeah! In the last couple of series, we were tested under pressure at times, which made us utilize different strategies and tools.

Especially, the New Zealand and Indian series have enhanced our preparation for the tournament. This would help us extract some things different about us. As of now, the team is in a very good position and has shown great confidence.

For a long time, the excitement was built to a great extent, and the squad is completely ready. With our hard work, practice, and performances for the past several months, we are eager and can’t wait to play in front of our home crowd and give our best performance throughout this T20 World Cup, ” the 33-year-old said.

A Hope to End 17-Year T20 World Cup Trophy Drought

England won the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup Trophy in 2009 at home under Charlotte Edwards captaincy. It has been 17 years since the English women succumbed to the trophy drought, suffering a winless campaign in their next nine editions of the tournament.

Nat Sciver-Brunt believes that the cheers from the home crowd motivate the performance and help to win the trophy back at home.

“Certainly! There are a lot of talented individuals who are confident enough in what they’re doing. The skill development over the winter season has turned out to be impressive, and we have the required tools to succeed. Here, the main key is to recognize the right moment and stay calm when it happens.

The high level of noise from the crowd being the home team gives us the best experience of that energy from the home crowd.

Expectations are high as the home fans hope we perform well. We should be able to stay focused within the team and on all core aspects of the game, which we have done in the last couple of series,” Sciver-Brunt said.

‘My Focus Only on Batting’: Nat Sciver Brunt

After recovering from injury, Nat Sciver clarified that her role would be limited to only as a batter throughout the women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The pace bowling all-rounder has undergone a lot of training, and with plenty of bowling options, her workload will be reduced so that she can focus solely on batting.

“Yes! It was frustrating for me when I was injured. But I would be back to play the warm-up match against Australia. As of now, my calf has improved and is doing well. I underwent a rigorous training session last week. The warm-up game against the Aussies will be my first game back on the pitch after an injury. So, I feel excited to make a comeback on the pitch.

For this tournament, it could change. I believe making a comeback solely as a batter is the most crucial thing. We have some brilliant bowlers who are the core part of the bowling unit. We will see how they perform. Right now, I will be playing only as a batter,” Sciver Brunt added.

Warm-up Match vs Australia: A Huge Cautionary Sign For England

Although England had huge confidence ahead of their warm-up fixture against Australia, they suffered a 5-wicket defeat.

Having batted first, the hosts compiled a mere total of 157/6 in 20 overs, with Alice Capsey (45 runs) and Freya Kemp (41 runs) being the only top scorers of their side.

Aussies comfortably chased the target with a 5-wicket win. Ellyse Perry’s 64-run knock, added with Beth Mooney’s 43 runs, made the 158-run target look easy to chase at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

However, England still has a chance to bounce back and regain momentum by targeting a win against India in their forthcoming warm-up match. This could serve as a last chance for the inaugural edition champions before entering the main event.
