Team India: The Indian cricket team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi recorded an 86-run victory against Bangladesh in the 2nd game, to seal the ongoing 3-match T20I series with a 2-0 outcome.
Suryakumar Yadav and his men followed their game plan and destroyed Bangladesh’s hopes to repeat their win against India in Delhi back in 2019. Despite attempting to provide a tough challenge to the home team at times, the visitors felt that the contest was out of their reach. The men in blue’s game posted a total of 221 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets, smashing 9 fours and 15 sixes in the first innings. Especially, the Indian batters switched gears after powerplay overs, despite the three wickets loss, which was an unexpected move that Najmul Hossain Shanto and his team had a tough time dealing with.
Interestingly, all the Indian bowlers managed to grab at least a wicket, which made it impossible for Bangladeshi batters to chase down a mammoth target.
As Team India gears up for the 2026 T20 World Cup, let’s take a look at the five positives for Suryakumar Yadav’s led side from their win over Bangladesh in the recently concluded 2nd T20I match.
1. Team India Posted 221 Total Despite Losing Three Wickets in Powerplay:
Initially, the Indian batters found themselves trapped in a tricky situation during the powerplay overs due to poor shot selection and execution. The instant dismissals of the opening batters Sanju Samson (10 runs from 7 balls – including 2 fours) and Abhishek Sharma (15 runs from 11 balls – including 3 fours) left Team India puzzled. Furthermore, the captain Suryakumar Yadav departing after scoring 8 runs from 10 balls worsened the situation.
But, the middle-order batters Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh joined together to maintain a 108-run partnership that helped stabilize India’s innings.
Nitish Reddy, playing his second international cricket match, achieved his maiden T20I fifty with a score of 74 runs from 34 balls (including 4 fours and 7 sixes) at a strike rate of 217.65. Batting at the fifth position, Rinku Singh scored 53 runs from just 29 balls (including 5 fours and 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 182.76.
Finally, it was Hardik Pandya’s 32 runs from 19 balls (including 2 fours and 2 sixes) and Riyan Parag’s 15 runs from 6 balls (including 2 sixes) that bolstered India’s total to 221-9 in 20 overs.
Despite a poor start in the powerplay that usually drowns a team’s performance in T20 matches, it was the middle-order batters show that not only helped recover from a poor start but also posted a huge total.
2. India’s game plan in the first innings:
Bangladesh entered the contest with high hopes relying on the key pacers Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mustafizur Rahman. As the Indian batters found it easier to tackle against the spinners, and allowed the core pace bowler Taskin Ahmed to bowl a decent four-over spell by conceding just 16 runs and taking 2 wickets.
The Bangladeshi captain Najmul Hossain Shanto had to take a few overs from his spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain to allocate the maximum of them to the fast bowlers. But Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh together scored 24 runs in the 10th over bowled by Rishad Hossain. Similarly, in the 13th over, Mehidy Hasan Miraz conceded 26 runs as Nitish Reddy smashed 3 sixes and a four.
Nitish played 34 balls and scored 13 runs in his first 13 balls (only a four), but accelerated his innings by accumulating 61 runs in the next 21 balls (3 fours and 7 sixes).
Mainly, the middle-order batters took advantage of loose deliveries and perhaps this was one of the main reasons that resulted in India crossing the 200-run mark.
3. All Seven Bowlers Taking at least a Wicket:
Suryakumar Yadav’s bold approach of assigning the overs to part-time bowlers in the second T20I match resulted in seven bowling options. All of them succeeded in taking at least each wicket. These are the valuable contributions from the Indian bowlers listed below along with their bowling figures:
- Nitish Reddy: 2-23 in 4 overs.
- Varun Chakaravarthy: 2-19 in 4 overs.
- Mayank Yadav: 1-30 in 4 overs.
- Arshdeep Singh: 1-26 in 3 overs.
- Riyan Parag: 1-16 in 2 overs.
- Abhishek Sharma: 1-10 in 2 overs.
- Washington Sundar: 1-4 in 1 over.
4. Acceleration after Powerplay Overs:
Team India was struggling with a score of 45-3 after the completion of powerplay overs. But, none of them would have expected that the rest of the Indian batters would power the team’s total to 221 by scoring another 176 runs in the remaining 14 overs of the innings.
Here is how India accelerated the innings post the powerplay:
- 7th Over: 6 runs (51-3 after 7 overs).
- 8th Over: 11 runs (62-3 after 8 overs).
- 9th Over: 15 runs (77-3 after 9 overs).
- 10th Over: 24 runs (101-3 after 10 overs).
- 11th Over: 13 runs (114-3 after 11 overs).
- 12th Over: 8 runs (122-3 after 12 overs).
- 13th Over: 26 runs (148-3 after 13 overs).
- 14th Over: 4 runs (152-4 after 14 overs).
- 15th Over: 13 runs (165-4 after 15 overs).
- 16th Over: 17 runs (182-4 after 16 overs).
- 17th Over: 3 runs (185-4 after 17 overs).
- 18th Over: 10 runs (195-5 after 18 overs).
- 19th Over: 18 runs (213-6 after 19 overs).
- 20th Over: 8 runs (221-9 after 20 overs).
5. Most Sixes in T20I vs Bangladesh:
Indian batters struck 15 sixes in the 2nd T20I match, which is the most by any team against Bangladesh, thereby surpassing the previous record of West Indies with 14 sixes in 2012.
