
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction is confirmed to take place at the ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru on December 15 at 11 am IST. Mainly, Bengaluru has been a prime destination for hosting the main cricket events such as the WPL mini auction due to easier access and infrastructure that makes it a perfect location for all franchises and players.
All five franchises were allocated a total purse of INR 15 crore, which is higher than the previous year’s value of INR 13.5 crore to strengthen their squads having the option to maintain upto six overseas players in the squad.
Apart from UP Warriorz has 3 slots available with an available purse of INR 3.9 crore, each team is left with 4 vacant spots to fill during the event.
Gujarat Giants (GG) whose season concluded at the bottom position in the previous two seasons’ points table, has the highest purse of INR 4.4 crore with four slots to fill after releasing seven core players from the squad. The runner-up of the 2023 and 2024 seasons Delhi Capitals (DC) has the least purse of INR 2.5 crore.
The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) boast the presence of Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and the T20 World Cup 2024 winning captain Sophie Devine. By releasing six core players, the franchise is left with a purse of INR 3.25 crore to fill the 4 vacant spots.
The 2023 champions Mumbai Indians (MI) having released four players ahead of the auction have INR 2.65 crore purse to spend to bolster its squad.

Overall Facts: WPL 2025
The upcoming season of the WPL is scheduled to take place from February to March 2025 for approximately three weeks.
All the matches of the WPL’s inaugural season in 2023, including the semi-final and final were only restricted to Mumbai. Later, all the 22 matches of the next edition were distributed evenly with New Delhi and Bengaluru hosting 11 games each. For the third edition, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is dedicated to conducting the matches in new venues.
Finally, the WPL 2025 mini-auction is expected to become a blockbuster event with England skipper Heather Knight, New Zealand’s medium pacer Lea Tahuhu, and West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin joining the top international players to make the bidding war more intense.
