Indian batting star Virat Kohli’s recent knock of a 93-ball 102-run knock (including 7 fours and 2 sixes) marked the 11th instance he scored centuries in consecutive ODIs. This is the 11th instance of Virat Kohli scoring twin hundreds in the format, and he exhibited the same level of fitness, strength, and intent to score as he used to perform since his debut in 2008.
The 37-year-old has been exceptional with his form by registering his 40th international century at home. Currently, the former legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar leads the prestigious chart.
Suppose Kohli plays for another few years and consistently scores centuries, there is a big opportunity for him to surpass Tendulkar’s multiple records.
Batters With Most Centuries at Home: Big Chance for Kohli!
Virat Kohli, after scoring 40 international centuries, ranks second in the list after Sachin Tendulkar (40 centuries) and is on the verge of achieving yet another sensational milestone. Here is how other veteran batters like Ricky Ponting, Joe Root, and David Warner rank in the elite list:
| Batter | Nation | Total International Centuries at Home | Test Centuries (at Home) | ODI Centuries (at Home) | T20I Centuries (at Home) |
| Sachin Tendulkar | INDIA | 42 | 22 | 20 | 0 |
| Virat Kohli | INDIA | 40 | 14 | 26 | 0 |
| Ricky Ponting | AUSTRALIA | 36 | 23 | 14 | 0 |
| Joe Root | ENGLAND | 34 | 24 | 10 | 0 |
| David Warner | AUSTRALIA | 31 | 20 | 10 | 1 |
NOTE: Virat Kohli’s number of centuries is updated after the IND vs SA 2nd ODI 2025, and his stats are subject to change in the forthcoming matches.
Most ODI Tons at Home in First Innings ft. Kohli and Sachin
Following a recent 102-run knock in the Ranchi ODI against South Africa, Virat Kohli now holds the joint record of scoring the most centuries at home in the first innings alongside Sachin Tendulkar.
| Player | Nation | ODI Career Span | ODI Centuries in First Innings |
| Virat Kohli | INDIA | 2008 to Present (2025) | 13 |
| Sachin Tendulkar | INDIA | 1989 to 2013 | 13 |
| Hashim Amla | SOUTH AFRICA | 2008 to 2019 | 11 |
Suppose Team India bats first in its next match, and if Kohli scores another century, then he would easily break Sachin’s record of scoring the most ODI centuries in the first innings.
Batters with Most ODI Centuries in 2 Different Decades
Virat Kohli amassed the most ODI centuries in nearly two decades of his career and outbeat Sachin Tendulkar in the overall tally. Out of 53 ODI tons, the veteran batter scored 35 of them in his first decade.
However, in the second decade, Kohli has scored only 18 hundreds in the 50-overs format, which is three fewer than Tendulkar.
Suppose Kohli manages to score another triple-digit figure on four occasions, then he would become the greatest ODI master to score the most centuries in two different decades.
| Player | Total Centuries in ODI Career | 1st Decade Span (ODI Career) | ODI Centuries in 1st Decade | 2nd Decade Span (ODI Career) | ODI Centuries in Decade 02 |
| Virat Kohli (INDIA) | 53 | 18th August 2008 to 17th August 2018 | 35 | 18th August 2018 to Present | 18 (continuing) |
| Sachin Tendulkar (INDIA) | 49 | 18th December 1989 to 17th December 1999 | 24 | 18th December 1989 to 17th December 1999 | 21 |
| Ricky Ponting (AUSTRALIA) | 30 | 15th February 1995 to 14th February 2005 | 16 | 15th February 2005 to 19th February 2012 | 14 |
| Kumar Sangakkara (SRI LANKA) | 25 | 05th July 2000 to 04th July 2010 | 10 | 05th July 2010 to 18th March 2015 | 15 |
Most ODI Centuries at Different Venues: Kohli’s Joint Record With Tendulkar
After scoring a magnificent 53rd ODI century in Raipur, Virat Kohli now joined Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list. As Raipur was indeed Kohli’s 34th venue to score an ODI ton, the batting maestro is on the verge of breaking Sachin’s another rare record.
| Player | Nation | ODI Centuries at Different Venues |
| Sachin Tendulkar | INDIA | 34 |
| Virat Kohli | INDIA | 34* |
| Rohit Sharma | INDIA | 26 |
| Hashim Amla | SOUTH AFRICA | 21 |
| AB de Villiers | SOUTH AFRICA | 21 |
Fact Check: Can Kohli Break Sachin’s 100 International Tons Record?
Currently, Virat Kohli, with 84 international centuries, is left with 6 ODI series, which gives him an opportunity to play 18 matches of the 50-over format. Additionally, the 2027 World Cup includes a minimum of six to a maximum of eleven matches for him (if India qualifies for the final).
With 24 to 30 ODI matches scheduled for India (including the World Cup fixtures), Virat needs to score his remaining 16 centuries to tally Sachin’s 100 international centuries record. In other words, the Indian team’s run machine needs to score tons at a rate of 1.8 to 2 per innings to overtake the legendary batter’s sensational record.
Tendulkar to Kohli: The New Master of White Ball Cricket
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar was hailed as the original master of white ball cricket, having scored 49 centuries in 452 ODIs. So, the God of Cricket has scored a ton per nine innings in the 50-over format.
Virat Kohli required just 295 ODI innings to score 53 centuries. It is understood that the King of Cricket scored each ton at a rate of every 5.6 innings.

Sachin or Virat: The Greatest Batter in International Cricket?
So far, Virat Kohli compiled 27,910 runs in 622 innings across three different formats and tallied upto 84 tons, having scored each of them in every 7.4 innings. However, his rate of scoring centuries has been much better than Sachin Tendulkar, who accomplished 100 tons in 782 innings.
While Kohli’s numbers look stronger, his comparison with Tendulkar wouldn’t be fair, as the playing conditions, rules, and equipment have evolved over the years.
