BCB Chairman About Bangladesh T20 WC Preparations
Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, the chairman of cricket operations and director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, revealed a few important updates about the team’s World Cup preparations during his recent media interaction:
“Yeah! All the works related to the T20 World Cup will take place before the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Particularly, the players in those teams that fail to make it into the top four of the league’s points table will be put into preparation.
Soon after the completion of the BPL final, the training programs will commence at home. If I’m not wrong, the national team would depart on the 28th of January, and we will feature in two warm-up matches against Afghanistan and Namibia in Bengaluru,” Fahim said.
Bangladesh’s Home Series Against Pakistan to Be Postponed
Nazmul Fahim, furthermore, confirmed that Bangladesh’s series against Pakistan at home is likely to be postponed due to the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Based on the schedule of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the series dates will be revised to comply with the PSL window.
According to the BCB director’s statement, the series would be split into two parts, with a few matches expected to be played before and after the PSL.
Bangladesh Aims for Memorable T20 World Cup 2026 Campaign
As Bangladesh’s group stage fixtures for the T20 World Cup 2026 are officially confirmed, the path and challenge for them are clear now. All the Tigers need to do is approach the game with an aggressive intent and a strong mindset without compromising the fearless brand of playing cricket.
Bangladesh needs to secure at least 2 out of 3 wins in the group stages against these teams to qualify for the next stages of the tournament:
| Bangladesh’s Opponent Team (in Group C) | Date and Day | Venue | Match Timings (Bangladesh Standard Timings) |
| West Indies | February 07, 2026 (Saturday) | Eden Gardens, Kolkata | 03:30 pm |
| Italy | February 09, 2026 (Monday) | 11:30 am | |
| England | February 14, 2026 (Saturday) | 03:30 pm | |
| Nepal | February 17, 2026 (Tuesday) | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai | 07:30 pm |
As Bangladesh would play its first three matches in Kolkata, the players would be easily familiarized with the Eden Gardens pitch conditions, which could be an added advantage. However, the visitors would face tough competition against the West Indies and England.
T20WC 2026 Warm-Up Fixtures to Boost Bangladesh’s Confidence
Two warm-up matches ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 can sharpen the skills of the entire Bangladesh team in multiple ways, such as:
- Increased reliability on a disciplined bowling attack.
- A mix of composed and aggressive approach from the middle-order batting unit.
- Control over proper strike rotation and a sharp spin bowling attack, particularly in the middle overs.
- Precise execution of strategies against high-profile teams.
- A composed start from top-order batters under pressure.
- Avoid relaxed attitudes to challenge opponents’ dynamic style of playing T20 cricket.
No International Assignments for Bangladesh Before T20 World Cup 2026
Although Bangladesh might feel fortunate enough to feature in two warm-up games before the T20 World Cup 2026, but wouldn’t have international fixtures. This could be the biggest drawback for the Tigers to miss out on gaining the much-needed exposure against competitive sides ahead of the tournament.
Teams like Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies have a busy workload, which could enhance their preparation levels.
‘Hope Them to Be the Greatest Force’: Pakistan Former Pacer
Shoaib Akhtar, the former pace bowler of the Pakistan cricket team, hoped that Bangladesh’s improving fast bowling attack could help them transform into the greatest force for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Here is what the 50-year-old legendary Pakistani pacer had to say about Bangladesh:
“Yeah! In the upcoming World Cup, I hope Bangladesh to become the strongest force to battle with. This has been one of the most promising national teams, and I believe they would surge above the hill and triumph in the World Cup.
I am eagerly waiting for Taskin Ahmed to surpass my bowling speed record. The power-packed pace guns that you’re discussing are fabulous.
Mainly, fast bowling is all about relieving stress from your body. I believe Nahid Rana can get going with great practice sessions. But I would give him some crucial advice, and if he follows, he would go far to achieve sensational records.
Most importantly, the attitude towards your life reflects on your on-field performance and behavior.
And speaking about Shaun Tait, he is one of the best fast-bowling coaches I have ever seen,” Akhtar said.
