Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Reflects on His Early Growth and Struggles in International Cricket

India’s teenage batting stalwart Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened up on the ups and downs of his international cricket career at an early stage. Ahead of the 3-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, the 15-year-old explained the psychological changes he underwent over the past four months.

Having compiled mediocre scores of 14,13, and 15 in three innings, the southpaw’s struggles on England pitches and a high-quality bowling attack were clearly evident.

Sooryavanshi scripted history by recently scoring his maiden international fifty against Zimbabwe in the series opener. Especially, the Harare Sports Club has been a favourite venue for the youngster, which helped him rediscover his peak form.

‘Ups and Downs in Career’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Following his heroic knocks in the Under-19 World Cup final and Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi faced severe criticism for his failures in the England T20I series. Here is what the Bihar-born cricketer said (translated from Hindi to English):

“Certainly! In the last four months, there were several ups and downs that I have faced in my career (in Hindi he said ‘Kaafi Ups and Downs Aayee Hainn last 4 mahiney mein ‘).

Although the highs and lows are part of cricket, which keep happening, I need to follow the process and give my 100% best performance for the team.

Whatever guidance I need, the coaches are providing, and all the arrangements are being made for my practice. This helps me feel good and confident,” Sooryavanshi said.

Harare Sports Club: Memorable Venue For Sooryavanshi

Having played a memorable 176-run knock in the Under-19 World Cup 2026 final at the Harare Sports Club, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shared his special moment achieved on Zimbabwe soil.

“Yes! This ground has been very memorable for me. We played the Under-19 World Cup final just four months back and won the trophy. Representing India is every player’s dream, particularly at a grand event; this special moment has become true for me at this stage.

It is a different feeling when you return to the same ground where you won the U-19 World Cup and created history,” the left-handed batter said.

Furthermore, Sooryavanshi revealed his familiarity with Zimbabwe pitches:

“Definitely! I have been familiar with the pitch and conditions when I played my last match here during the Under-19 World Cup.  So, my learnings gathered during the tournaments will be applied during the upcoming matches to perform well.

I believe that my practice sessions will help me make better contributions for my team. Having played two matches on the ground which went well, I try to carry forward the performance in the next games as well,” Vaibhav added.

Indian Youngster’s Maiden International Fifty At Favorite Venue

The series opener of the 3-match T20I series in Zimbabwe saw Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dominate the 125-run chase with his quickfire maiden international half-century.

The opening batter returned to form in Harare and scored a quickfire 19-ball-fifty (including 4 fours and 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 263.16.

Although Zimbabwe pacer Richard Ngarava dismissed Vaibhav after the powerplay, his brutal knock helped India accumulate more than half of the required target.

India’s 7-wicket win with 40 balls to spare includes the core contributions of Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav’s 2-fers, added with Sooryavanshi’s match-winning fifty.

After getting benched throughout the Ireland tour, Sooryavanshi made his international debut in England, but accumulated only 42 runs in 3 T20I innings. Despite criticisms mounting on the young batter, he gave a perfect response with his batting performance by replicating the success from his favorite venue.

Zimbabwe Captain Against Critics’ Early Judgement on Sooryavanshi

Sikandar Raza, the captain of the Zimbabwe men’s cricket team, voiced his opinion against critics for rushing too early to provide judgement over Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s performance in international cricket.

Here is what the 40-year-old said during his recent media interaction with Jiostar:

“See! There is no doubt about the supreme talent of a young cricketer like Vaibav. As a 15-year-old, he recently started playing his international cricket. It won’t be fair to criticise him just after two or three matches.

There are several senior star cricketers around him. And if they manage and handle him well, I believe Vaibhav could transform into a great generational talent,” Raza said.

Final Opinion

At the age of 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already faced a huge level of fan expectations, criticism, and psychological strain. This is because of his early exposure to international cricket, that too on the toughest pitch conditions in England.

Also, the Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza cautioned against premature judgments as his statement outlines the reality that youngsters need time and space to get nurtured into generational stars.

Ultimately, Sooryavanshi proved his ability to bounce back with his maiden international fifty at his favorite ground in Zimbabwe. This shows his resilience and maturity beyond his age.
