Most 200+ Runs In IPL History: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has gained immense popularity and success over the years due to the fast-paced T20 cricket played by the top-performing teams to provide the best excitement and entertainment to fans. Since its inaugural edition in 2008, the IPL has created many wonders by attracting the best-talented cricketers globally, who later made their debut at the international level.

Whereas, the 30th match of IPL 2024 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), recorded the highest aggregates in T20 cricket ( 549 runs in 40 overs).

Several IPL teams gave their best efforts to post a huge total. Based on the stats collected till the 58th match of IPL 2024, here are the few teams that have posted the most number of 200+ runs in the history of the Indian Premier League IPL so far.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK): 32 innings

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been the joint successful franchise to win the most number of IPL titles (five times in the years 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023) under the former skipper MS Dhoni’s captaincy. However, the Yellow Army has been performing well in the ongoing season under their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

CSK has scored 200+ runs in 32 innings, which includes 34 wins and 8 losses with a success percentage of 75%. In 2010, the Super Kings recorded their highest total of 246-5 in 20 overs against Rajasthan Royals.

The previous contribution of veteran batters like Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Michael Hussey, Murali Vijay and Faf du Plessis along with the newbies such as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube makes CSK rank at the leading position in this list.

2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): 29 innings

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ranks among one of the most successful teams, and they are yet to win their maiden IPL trophy. Indian batter Virat Kohli has been the prime reason for RCB’s success. He has not only fulfilled the role of the core batter of his side but also has been the heart and soul of his team over these years. Kohli is the top run scorer for RCB scoring 8,303 runs in 255 innings. 

The combination of previous batters like Ab de Villiers, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul and the current line-up which includes Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis along with Virat Kohli guided RCB to score 200+ runs in 28 innings.

Out of these 29 innings, RCB maintains 18 winnings and 10 losses with a success rate of 64.29%. It includes their highest score of 263-5 in 20 overs against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013.

Although the Royal Challengers haven’t won a majority of games, they still hold the record of achieving the second-most 200+ runs in the history of IPL. 

3. Kolkata Knight Riders: 25 innings

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) holds the 3rd place for winning the most IPL titles ( in 2012 and 2014) as well as for scoring the most number of 200+ runs. Interestingly, KKR became the first team to score more than 200 runs in IPL (222-3 in 20 overs), riding on the valiant knock of Brendon McCullum’s 153 runs from 73 balls against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2008.

KKR scored 200+ runs in 25 innings, out of which they won 14 and lost 10 games by maintaining a success rate of 58.33%. Also, it includes the 3rd highest total in IPL history, where KKR scored 272-7 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals on 3rd April 2024.

4. Mumbai Indians (MI): 25 innings

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have emerged as the most successful IPL franchise by winning the trophy five times (in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020) under their former skipper Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

In the past 16 editions, MI had several legendary batters such as Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Sanath Jayasuriya, Quinton de Kock and Sachin Tendulkar. Additionally, with the presence of current players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, MI smashed 200-plus scores in 25 innings. As a result, the blue army ranks at the 4th position in the list of recording most 200+ runs in IPL. 

Out of the 25 innings, MI won 19 games and lost 6 of them. It includes their highest score of 247-9 in the 43rd match of IPL 2024 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in a losing cause. However, they still maintain a success rate of 76%.

5. Punjab Kings (PBKS): 23 innings

The Punjab Kings, formerly known as the Kings XI Punjab, haven’t been successful in qualifying for the IPL playoffs. They have only advanced into the finals only once in 2014 but concluded as the runner-up against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

KKR have scored 200+ runs in 23 innings, out of which they secured 16 wins and 7 losses with a success rate of 69.56. It includes their highest score of 262-2 in 18.4 overs overs against KKR in the 42nd match of IPL 2024. Interestingly, the PBKS recorded the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket.
