Tamim Iqbal, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), clarified that India-Bangladesh white-ball series could take place. The former cricketer conveyed that the BCB is in active discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to resume the postponed limited-overs tour.
Although the exact window isn’t confirmed, if the plans take place smoothly, India could tour Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
Earlier, the series between India and Bangladesh was planned for August 2025, but was postponed due to political tensions. Although the series was rescheduled to September 2026, Afghanistan is playing their home T20I series in India during the same window, posing huge hurdles for Bangladesh.
However, Tamim’s statement revives hopes in the cricketing world that the IND-BAN series is not cancelled but rather postponed. Also, he stated that both cricketing boards have shown their sincerity and dedication to revive the bilateral series.
Tamim Iqbal’s Assurance and Cheerful Intentions
During the recent media interaction, Tamim Iqbal addressed the issue directly by saying:
“See! So far it hasn’t been decided that the series against India won’t happen. Both BCB and BCCI are sincerely working on it and trying their level best to organize the series in a very good window. I am hopeful that this series will happen.
Do not view it from a negative point of view. Had my intentions been negative, I wouldn’t have confidently said this word in front of you. As of now, both boards have roughly estimated the date, but it needs to be figured out if the series can happen at that time or not.
Let me make myself clear. My intentions are always positive. Currently, both India and Bangladesh are busy with their cricketing schedules,” the BCB president said.
Mustafizur Controversy: Should Bangladesh Have Handled The Matter Carefully?
Tamim Iqbal believes that Bangladesh should have handled Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL controversy with more caution. The 30-year-old pacer was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise following instructions from the BCCI.
Amidst the strained India-Bangladesh relationship, Mustafizur’s signing by KKR worth INR 9.2 crore during the player auction drew severe backlash from the public.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, BCB demanded the International Cricket Council (ICC) relocate Bangladesh matches from India to a neutral venue or co-hosting nation Sri Lanka. Upon multiple rejections, Bangladesh opted out of the high-profile tournament hosted by India.
As Bangladesh failed to handle Mustafizur’s issue carefully, it became the main reason for the uncertainty in hosting India’s white‑ball series.
Tamim Iqbal Opened Up About Mustafizur Rahman’s Controversy
After several months, Tamim Iqbal spoke about Mustafizur Rahman’s sudden exclusion from the IPL, which further deteriorated the cricketing ties between Bangladesh and India.
“Certainly! Mustafizur Rahman’s issue made every individual in the nation very depressed. I accept that what happened to him was not right and shouldn’t have happened again. Even now I would say that so much trouble happened recently.
If we are going to play in the World Cup, there is no point in returning on the very first day, and then that solution won’t happen.
Sports should not interfere with politics. For instance, there was a war between Iran and America. But Iran still went to play in America despite the ongoing war between the two nations. What I mean to say is our negotiation should have been done better,” Iqbal added.
The BCB president still regrets that Bangladesh should have played the T20 World Cup 2026. Forfeiting the tournament has added one of the most negative remarks in Bangladesh cricket history.
Tamim Iqbal’s Opinion: Lessons For the Future
According to Tamim Iqbal, the national cricket boards should avoid linking franchise league disputes to international tournaments. In other words, the BCB president suggests politics should be separated from cricket, and sports should purely be viewed as sports.
He cautioned that every nation’s cricketing board, including the BCB, should ensure players’ welfare and prevent them from getting trapped in political crossfire.
Most importantly, Tamim’s statement suggests that a constructive discussion with both nations’ cricket boards could have been effective rather than withdrawing from the T20 World Cup 2026, which hurt players and fans sentiments.
Had Bangladesh taken a measured approach, not only would they have played the 10th edition of the T20 World Cup 2026, but also hosted India for the bilateral series in the September window. As a consequence, the BCCI prioritized the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) request to host their home T20I series on Indian soil in the same window.

Overall Facts
In contrast to BCB’s earlier plans, there are no signs of India’s tour of Bangladesh taking place in the September 2026 window. Although Tamim Iqbal gave a confident statement, there is no official schedule or announcement about the India-Bangladesh series.
Despite scheduling conflicts and political sensitivities remaining obstacles, both the BCCI and the BCB are committed to finding the best solution. If India’s tour of Bangladesh is finalized, the series will not only strengthen the cricketing relationship but also open a new chapter in the fierce and exciting rivalry between the neighbouring nations.
