T20 World Cup 2024: List Of Teams Qualified For Super 8s

The T20 World Cup 2024 is approaching the climax of the group stages as the Super Eights of the tournament are scheduled to commence on June 19 (Wednesday). Out of 20 participating nations, 12 teams will head towards home and 8 teams will advance into the Super Eight rounds.

The 40th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 between West Indies and Afghanistan on June 17 in Group C will be the last clash in the league stages.

Ahead of the tournament, 20 teams were categorized into four different groups, with each one consisting of 5 participants. The top two teams from each group qualify for the Super Eight stages.

Furthermore, the Super Eights are divided into two groups, each featuring 4 teams. Consequently, the runner-up from B and D will accompany the winners from A and C in Group 1. Similarly, the runner-up from A and C moves along with the winners from B and D in Group 2.

Earlier only the 4 teams from each group, that ranked as the table toppers, secured their spot in the Super 8s. Recently, Afghanistan became the 5th team to qualify for the Super Eights, thereby eliminating New Zealand from the tournament.

Let’s find out the teams that have qualified for Super Eights and how the groups look in the next round after Afghanistan’s latest 7-wicket victory against Papua New Guinea. Also, you need to know the schedule and four common venues that host the crucial stages of the tournament.

T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Teams in Group 1 and Group 2

As of June 14, India (Group A), Australia (Group B), West Indies and Afghanistan (Group C), and South Africa (Group D) have qualified for the Super 8 stages of the T20 World Cup 2024.

While the other three spots are yet to be finalized by the competitive teams, these five teams sealed their berths in Group 1 and Group 2 of the Super 8s. Here is a look at the teams that have entered the subsequent rounds:

Group 1 TeamsGroup 2 Teams
India (A1)B1
Australia (B2)A2
Afghanistan (C1)South Africa (D1)
D2West Indies (C2)

Despite Australia ranking at the top position in the Group B points table, they were tagged as “B2”, based on the ICC’s seeding concept, since the defending champions England were placed in the same group. The seeding rule resulted in the ICC pre-determining the Super 8 fixtures before the completion of the league stages. In such scenarios, if England gets eliminated from the tournament, the qualifying team will enter the Super 8s as B1.

Suppose, West Indies manages to secure the top position in the points table by winning its last match in the Group C fixtures against Afghanistan, they will still qualify for Super Eights as C2.
