Having spent more than 60% of funds out of INR 120 crore purse to retain only five capped Indian players, there were uncertainties on how the five-time IPL champions would fill up remaining slots by including top-quality middle-order batters and all-rounders.
With INR 45 crore, the franchise has made strategic moves in the two-day bidding event by acquiring key players. This helped them solve the drawbacks in their batting and bowling line-up.
However, the franchise with 1 Right to Match (RTM) card to retain an uncapped player was left with no possibility of retaining the capped Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan via RTM due to the IPL 2025 retention policies.

Although the 35-year-old hasn’t officially retired from international cricket, it has been more than five years since he represented the Indian national team. Releasing the leg-spinner from the squad could add a huge threat to MI’s inexperienced spin-bowling line-up.
- High Competition from other teams batters: Despite Mumbai Indians adding strength to the fast bowling line-up, they might face severe competition from other teams having a strong batting unit.
