Knowing about the fondness between Rishabh Pant and Parth Jindal, the LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka made the highest bid. And, he reveals the reason that Delhi Capitals have already lost the bid and PBKS (Punjab Kings) acquired Shreyas Iyer for INR 26.50 crore.
Sanjiv said that he knew Parth would go up to one level higher for Rishabh Pant, so he had to take this decision and go three levels higher. All that Goenka wished was the DC owner must stop, and no matter at any cost. And, this resulted in LSG acquiring Rishabh Pant for a whopping INR 27 Crore and creating a history of the costliest player in IPL.

He says that they were ready to spend up to INR 25 crore, but DC used their RTM (Right to Match) card. And, understanding Rishabh’s importance in Delhi Capitals, LSG kept bidding higher and higher. After a certain point, the DC could not sustain the bidding war and did not retain him, which handed over the opportunity to the LSG.

He said that: “There was a video, where I saw Rishabh Pant doing the Dramabaazi (acting) on the field. At that time, Rishabh had slowed the force and I liked his attitude, especially when everything was going against him, he decided to change the momentum by removing pads”.
And, Goenka states openly that ever since that moment, he had been thinking it would be good to have Rishabh Pant on his team.
Adding on it, he says “What impressed me a lot was, the way Rishabh Pant came back from a deathly accident and severe injury, and he came back stronger! Indeed, he was much stronger than his original form. Also, Rishabh is 27 years old, so I am hoping he stays with Lucknow Super Giants for the upcoming 10 to 12 years too”.
