Sam Konstas Marks A Sensational Debut In MCG Test: Stats And Batting Records You Need To Know!

Australian all-rounder Sam Konstas delivered a perfect Boxing Day Punch by scoring his maiden international half-century in the 4th test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

He started on a steady note in the initial overs but accelerated his performance by piling up 14 runs in the 7th over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah.

It would be shocking to know that the first six were struck off against Bumrah’s bowling in tests since the 2021 Cameron Green hit at the Sydney Cricket Ground. But, this time it was the 19-year-old who hit a six as well as accumulated more than half of his runs against India’s best bowler in the series.

Konstas gave a perfect start that Australia required by scoring 60 runs out of just 65 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes at a batting strike rate of 92.31. It set a tone for the rest of the experienced batters to accumulate runs resulting in the hosts posting a total of 474 runs in 122.4 overs of their first innings.

Before delving deeper into Sam’s batting stats and records, it would be interesting to find out how the young Australian opener marked his historic debut on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test by targeting Bumrah’s overs.

Sam Konstas vs Jasprit Bumrah: Most Runs scored by the Young Aussie Batter Against India’s Veteran Pacer

Out of 33 balls faced against Jasprit Bumrah, Sam Konstas scored 34 runs by targeting the 7th and 11th over of the match, which helped him mark a sensational debut in his international cricket career. Analyzing the previous records, it was the highest by any batter against the 31-year-old pacer in tests, surpassing former England batter Alastair Cook with 25 runs out of 40 balls in 2018.

Interestingly, Sam Konstas scored his first two international runs in the third over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah.

But, the real action started in the 7th over when Konstas smashed 2 fours and a six to accumulate 14 runs against Bumrah. However, he didn’t stop there and once again targeted Bumrah in the 11th over by adding another 18 runs off that over.

The below-tabulated stats prove how Konstas left Bumrah speechless during the 7th and 11th over of the match:
