In Salaar Movie, Deva, also known as Cutout (Prabhas) to children, lives in the remote Assam village of Tinsukia with his mother (Easwari Rao) near a coal mine. They’ve been moving around for the last seven years, with his mother keeping a close eye on Deva and shielding him from violence. Deva, a mechanic, is docile and goes about his business until Billal brings Aadhya (Shruti Haasan), who is in danger from Obulamma (Jhansi), into the mix for refuge.
Meanwhile, in Khansar, Raja Mannar (Jagapathi Babu) prepares to appoint his son, Vardha (Prithviraj Sukumaran), as his successor. This decision precipitates a dangerous coup plotted by Mannar’s ministers and advisors. As foreign armies from various countries are hired to cause chaos, the plot thickens. As Radha, Raja Mannar’s daughter and the ruler of Khansar in his absence, declares a nine-day ceasefire before calling for a vote of representatives from the empire’s 101 tribes. Vardha seeks the help of his childhood best friend, Deva, when his life is threatened. Will Deva undertake the perilous mission in order to save Vardha? Will there be a cease-fire or a massacre?
Salaar Movie Plus Points:
In Prabhas’ long-awaited action film, Prashanth Neel knows how to showcase the Herculean Prabhas in the best way possible.
It is difficult to imagine another actor playing the role of Deva aka Salaar as well as Prabhas. The character has little dialogue but is filled with violence, emphasizing his physique, dialogue delivery, and overall fan-friendly nature. A lot of the action sequences in the movie keep the audience on the edge of their seats due to Prabhas’ maniacal and ruthless behavior.
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s performance adds significant depth to the film according to Prashanth Neel. His surprising Telugu proficiency and compelling scenes opposite Prabhas add to the viewing experience.
The first half of the story is strong, with Prashanth Neel’s signature racy, crisp, and elevating screenplay. Excellent action sequences are accompanied by a well-crafted score. Whistle-worthy moments in the film include the interval, climax, and elevations.
Salaar Movie Minus Points:
While the first half of the story moves at a satisfactory pace, the second half could have benefited from more refined narration. Certain scenes in the second hour may make you think of KGF, which will have an impact on the film’s originality.
Prashanth Neel overshadows actors like Brahmaji and Jhansi, who may have more important roles in the second half, in favour of actors like Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, John Vijay, and Sriya Reddy, even though the supporting cast is large.
The amount of violence in this section may prevent family audiences from connecting with the film.
Technical Aspects of Salaar Movie:
Prashanth Neel shows off his directing talent once again, expertly elevating heroism with simple scenes. The overall narrative could; however, have been enhanced by a more focused approach to the story and screenplay in the second half.
As always, Ravi Basrur’s score enhances several scenes and he delivers a satisfying performance. In addition to Bhuwan Gowda’s cinematography, Anbarivu’s stunts are noteworthy. While Ujwal Kulakarni’s editing in the second hour could have been better, the production values are excellent.
Overall, Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire stands out as an intense action drama with outstanding performances by Prabhas, especially in action scenes, and Prithviraj. The well-executed stunts add to the overall appeal of the film. The notable drawbacks are the simple narrative, a somewhat dragging second half, and excessive violence. Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is worth a watch this weekend if you like Prabhas or high-octane action films.
