Rohit Sharma Likely To Retire From T20I Format

Rohit Sharma Retires from T20I format! Who is the Next Captain of the Indian Team, in short-format Cricket?

We know that the Hitman Rohit Sharma is leading Team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, officially starting from 1st June 2024 in the United States. Recently, the 15-player list for the prestigious tournament was released.

As a result, fans and former cricketers have been sharing their views and opinions about the team. However, few raised their eyebrows at the decision to select Hardik Pandya as vice-captain, despite his poor performance in IPL 2024.

Rohit Sharma T20 Format Retirement

According to the recent report by Dainik Jagran, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is planning to retire from the T20 format. However, it would be after the World Cup, and the BCCI (Board for Control of Cricket) wants Hardik Pandya to take over the captaincy for the short-format game.

This report came a few months after Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma and became the captain of MI (Mumbai Indians). Indeed, this could have gone better amongst the fans but unfortunately, it couldn’t. As a result, Hardik became a victim of severe social media trolls and mass booing from the crowds in the stadium.

However, this did not stop there! It became intense after Mumbai Indians crashed out of IPL 2024; marking it as one of their most disastrous performance ever.

Experts and Former Cricketers aren’t happy with the new captaincy!!

However, other experts and former cricketers are pointing out Hardik’s captaincy scenario in IPL 2024, where the entire team seems divided into parts. Also, a few other players aren’t happy about the captaincy change. Therefore, the team’s visual indicates that they are mainly disappointed with the leadership style of Hardik Pandya.

Clueless Rohit Sharma!!

Rohit Sharma, the present Indian skipper himself, is clueless regarding his future in IPL 2024. Just recently, he expressed his frustration about how things have been changing in the Mumbai Indians team. Also, Rohit was captured casually having a conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders players. As a result, this scene was most shared on social media, which sparked a heated discussion about whether Rohit Sharma is looking forward to a change after IPL 2024.

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar didn’t want Hardik Pandya in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad!

According to recent reports and surveys, Rohit Sharma (Indian Skipper) and Ajit Agarkar (BCCI Selection Committee head) did not want Hardik Pandya’s name to be in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

The report clearly stated that they had to select Hardik Pandya in the squad only under pressure. However, the report did not read as to what kind of pressure they referred to. Probably it could have been a situational pressure to select him as he is the only Indian Fast bowling All-Rounder.

At the same time, it could have been other kinds of pressures from the quarters. Overall, the report was keen in registering that during the selection meeting held in Ahmedabad; Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar, and a few other selectors were against Hardik Pandya. They didn’t want him to get selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad.

The same publisher, Dainik Jagran, has reportedly stated that after the World Cup, Rohit Sharma might consider his retirement from the T20 format.

Hardik Pandya was selected in the squad despite his position being UNCERTAIN!

The report from Dainik Jagran has been highlighting again and again that Hardik Pandya’s position is uncertain in the playing XI. Even if Hardik plays, he might not be present in all the matches.

Recently after the T20 World Cup team selection. During the press conference, Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar were asked about the inclusion of Hardik Pandya. Ajit Agarkar explained the question, saying they did not have any other choice left as there were no same-to-same replacements available for Hardik in the existing talent pool.

Did BCCI Senior Official React to these reports?

While these reports have become a heated discussion and topic of interest; none of the BCCI senior officials or Indian Team management have reacted to these reports.

Also, in other reports, it is stated that Ajit Agarkar (The BCCI selection committee chief) and Rohit Sharma (Indian Captain) were not in favour of including Hardik Pandya in the 2024 T20 World Cup Squad.

The previous year, Hardik did not appear for India, as he had undergone an injury during the ODI World Cup. However, he made his return to the IPL in 2024, but the fast-bowling all-rounder couldn’t create a positive impact in both batting and bowling.

However, let us wait and look forward to the official confirmation from the Indian captain Rohit Sharma about his retirement.
