The RCB IPL title in 2027 could become one of the most historic achievements in Indian Premier League history. Royal Challengers Bengaluru went from waiting 18 years for their first IPL trophy to winning back-to-back titles in 2025 and 2026. Now, the question is whether RCB can complete an unprecedented three-peat in 2027. The answer will depend on squad continuity, leadership, player form and how well the team handles the next auction cycle.
How RCB Broke the Curse to Win Back-to-Back Titles
The biggest change in RCB’s story was not simply about adding more star players. It was about building a side that could win in different ways. Rajat Patidar’s rise as captain has been central to that change. With Patidar leading the side, Virat Kohli has been able to concentrate on his batting and play the role expected of one of the team’s most experienced players.
The leadership change also brought a different feel to RCB’s cricket. Patidar has demonstrated the courage to take offensive decisions in terms of his bowling and fielding changes, whereas the experienced players have kept on contributing their experience.
A More Balanced Squad Built for an RCB IPL Title in 2027
RCB’s current success is also centered on depth, not relying on two or three famous faces. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya, for instance, have brought experience to the bowling and middle-order sections respectively. Josh Hazlewood has bolstered the pace bowling, while players like Rasikh Dar and Suyash Sharma have offered valuable assistance.
This approach was evident throughout the 2026 season. RCB were capable of scoring plenty of runs if the situation was favorable to their batsmen, but they were equally good at winning games with their bowling performance. One example is the nine-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals by dismissing them for a mere 75. In another match against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, RCB scored an astonishing 254/5, with Patidar hitting an undefeated 93 from just 33 deliveries.
Back-to-Back Finals Showed a New RCB
It all started to become apparent in the finals. RCB kept their cool in the 2025 final match against Punjab Kings, winning by six runs. That was a very close match, but the Bengaluru team managed to withstand the pressure until the last moments of the match.
Then, in the 2026 final match against Gujarat Titans, RCB made 156 runs before chasing it, with only two overs left to play.
Kohli played a crucial role in that chase, finishing unbeaten on 75 off 42 balls. Rasikh Dar also made an important contribution with figures of 3/27. RCB’s five-wicket victory made them only the third team after Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians to successfully defend an IPL title.
The two finals were different games, but both showed the same important quality: RCB found a way to stay composed when the pressure was highest.
Can RCB Complete the Three-Peat and Win an RCB IPL Title in 2027?
Winning two titles in succession is already rare in the IPL. Adding a third would take RCB into territory no franchise has reached before.
The biggest challenge will be keeping the squad together. RCB entered the 2026 season with 17 retained players, including Kohli, Patidar, Bhuvneshwar, Krunal, Hazlewood, Rasikh, Suyash, Phil Salt and Tim David. That continuity helped the team carry its winning combination into another season.
But the 2027 auction and player movement can change that picture quickly. Other teams will be looking for ways to strengthen their squads, while RCB will have to decide which players remain essential to their plans.
Keeping the Winning Mentality
Another challenge is avoiding the natural drop that can come after winning repeatedly. RCB now knows what it takes to survive knockout pressure. The 2025 final gave them their first taste of winning the biggest game, while the 2026 campaign showed they could return the following year and do it again.
That experience could be valuable in 2027. At the same time, every opponent will arrive with greater motivation against the defending champions.

Kohli, Patidar and the Next Test
The relationship between Patidar’s leadership and Kohli’s experience will remain important. Kohli has already played a major part in both title campaigns, while Patidar has grown from an important batter into the team’s captain. Around them, RCB have developed a group capable of contributing in different areas.
For RCB, the challenge now is not proving that the curse is over. That has already been done. The real test is whether the franchise can preserve the structure that ended the drought, deal with the changes that come with a new auction cycle, and maintain the same level of hunger to secure another RCB IPL title in 2027.
Winning a third consecutive IPL title in 2027 will be an addition to RCB’s rich legacy of achievements. For now, however, what is evident is that RCB needs to focus on retaining its strengths and fixing its weaknesses before it is too late.
