The core set of Pakistani cricketers is unlikely to participate in the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 to prioritize national commitments.
The BPL 2025-26 is scheduled to take place between December 26 and January 23, directly conflicting with Pakistan’s key international fixtures ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Moreover, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keen not to release experienced players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi to secure their services for national matches ahead of the 20-overs World Cup.

| Rangpur Riders | Khawaja Nafay |
| Sufiyan Muqeem | |

BPL Franchise Officials Confirm Pakistani Players’ Unavailability
The officials working closely with the BPL franchises clarified that they are searching for alternatives due to Pakistani cricketers’ busy international schedule:
“Yeah! We are well aware that the Pakistani cricketers won’t be able to play throughout the season. They are having a series against Sri Lanka in mid-January before they host Australia for T20Is at the end of January,” one of the BPL franchise officials said.
Also, the latest reports reveal that the PCB is clear with its stance not to issue any NOCs to the national players till January 15.
How BPL 2025–26 Conflicts with Pakistan’s International Fixtures?
BPL 2025-26 takes place between December 26 and January 23. During this span, Pakistan is scheduled to face off against Sri Lanka in a 3-match T20I series on January 07th, 09th, and 11th.
Later, Pakistan will compete against Australia for a 3-match T20I series at home in the last week of January before they depart for Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup 2026. However, the exact dates and venues for the series are yet to be confirmed.
The December-January window becomes extremely crucial for Pakistan to enhance its preparation for the ICC’s forthcoming high-profile tournament.
Despite the franchise commitments and international series clashes, the PCB has assured that the BBL teams will get the services of Pakistani players. Suppose the T20I series is finalized, then the Pakistani players are likely to return to rejoin their national team squad before the completion of the league stages.
PCB Official About Issuing NOC to Pakistani Players
The PCB official opened up on the player availability, saying that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be given to Pakistanis unless they aren’t on national duty:
“No! It is not that we are against giving NOC this year. The NOCs applied by the players are currently being processed. We are analyzing who is eligible to get an NOC and who cannot.
However, we must ensure to prioritize players when they are on national duty. If a player is on national duty, he will certainly not have NOC. This is a standard practice followed across the world,” the PCB official stated.
PCB’s strategy prompts players to give importance to bilateral series and T20 World Cup preparations over overseas franchise T20 leagues. After the Sri Lankan tour, Pakistan will host a T20I series against Australia, which further diminishes the players’ availability for BPL.
Pakistani Players without NOC Restrictions
As players in the national squad face restrictions to participate in franchise T20 leagues like BPL, certain Pakistani cricketers are unlikely to face complications, as they aren’t in the current T20 World Cup selections. It includes the names of:
- Ihsanullah
- Imad Wasim
- Khawaja Nafay
- Hussain Talat
- Haider Ali
Chances of Pakistani Players to Play BPL 2025-26
Experts predict that some Pakistani players can play a few matches of BPL 2025-26 before they face off against Sri Lanka.
While a few others believe that players can feature in Bangladesh’s most popular T20 league during the short break between the Sri Lankan and Australian series. However, this option could only be possible for those players to feature in the BPL who aren’t part of Pakistan’s plans for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026.

Overall Verdict
It’s not just about BPL, but also other franchise T20 leagues such as the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia and International League T20 (ILT20) in the UAE that rely on Pakistani players face a massive blow.
In conclusion, it becomes clear that the Pakistani players selected for the Sri Lankan tour will be restricted from taking part in BPL or other franchise leagues that are scheduled during the same December-January window.
