India White Ball Tour of Bangladesh 2026: Series Dates Still Remain Unconfirmed!

The Bangladesh vs India white-ball series was all set to go ahead this September, but new concerns have arisen due to the political tensions between the two nations. As per the Future Tours Program (FTP) 2023-27, India was supposed to travel to Bangladesh in August 2025. Due to the strained political relationship, the series was postponed.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) earlier invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for media rights, which led many to assume that the series was now on track. Two weeks have passed, yet the BCB hasn’t released the EOI documents for broadcasters required to join the bidding war.

Neither the BCB nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed the proceedings of the six-match series, including 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs each.

According to the BCB source’s statement, several possible reasons add uncertainty to the Bangladesh tour.

BCB Source’s Official Statement: Media Rights Process Halted

Here is how the BCB source’s statement added a fresh twist to the Bangladesh vs India series:

“See! We haven’t issued the EOI documents so far. This is because our plans have undergone a slight change. We need to assess the market before inviting bids. At the same time, it is false that the board has withheld the EOI documents because of the white-ball series against India,” the BCB source stated to Cricbuzz.

Although BCB announced that the media rights bidding process would close on July 22, broadcasters are not being provided with the necessary documentation.

Main Reasons Why Bangladesh vs India Series 2026 May Not Take Place

  1. BCCI was not satisfied with or didn’t approve of BCB’s choice to pass the media rights tender. This is because no proper discussions were held between the two cricketing boards.
  2. The series timeline could be reassessed. This is because the BCB President Tamim Iqbal and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia have attended the ICC Board Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland. The officials from both cricket boards could have discussed about the series.
  3. The EOI documents are yet to be released because neither the tour’s dates nor the venues have been confirmed.

BCB’s Provisional Schedule For Annual Home Series 2026

As per the BCB’s draft schedule for home series, here is a brief timeline of India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh in 2026:

  • India’s Arrival in Bangladesh: 28th August 2026
  • 3-match ODI series: 1st, 3rd, and 6th September
  • 3-match T20I series: 9th, 12th, and 13th September

BCB’s earlier announced fixture between 01st and 13th of August is now under review because of the revised plans, as the dates vary completely from the provisional schedule for the home series.

As the EOI documents require finalized fixtures and venues officially, it is unlikely that the media rights process could be completed.

Senior BCB Officials Deny Speculations of Series Cancellation

Despite the EOI documents not yet being released, the BCB official clarified that the India vs Bangladesh series is on track.

“See! India’s white-ball series against Bangladesh will proceed as per the planned schedule. All we require is a little extra time to ensure the interested broadcasters come up with the best offers before releasing the EOI documents,” the BCB official said.

Diplomatic and Cricketing Tensions: Big Hurdle to Host IND vs BAN Series

For several months, India’s cricket tour of Bangladesh has been trapped in uncertainty due to the strained diplomatic ties.

The cricketing relationship furthermore worsened when Bangladesh forfeited playing T20 World Cup 2026 matches in India. Also, BCB requested ICC to shift all its games to a neutral co-hosting venue like Sri Lanka. Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s release from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad ahead of the IPL 2026 season ignited the rift between the two nations’ cricket boards.

Even though Dinesh Trivedi’s appointment as India’s ambassador revived hopes of progress last month, the challenges became a big hurdle for the team’s travel. At one stage, there were positive signs of improvement, which reignited the hopes for the tour to commence. But several sources confirmed that despite positive steps, problems could still arise that prevent India’s visit to Bangladesh.

Is India’s White Ball Tour of Bangladesh 2026 Cancelled Officially?

So far, the BCB or BCCI has remained silent if the series has been cancelled or postponed.

With the media rights process getting delayed and uncertainty over the schedule, there have been more doubts about the India-Bangladesh series than ever before.

Both cricket boards are expected to add clarity to the situation in the forthcoming weeks.

The diplomatic relationship between these two countries witnessed a gradual improvement after the conclusion of the national elections in Bangladesh on February 12.

Finally, the cricketing relationship between Bangladesh and India depends on whether the scheduled white-ball tour goes ahead in the forthcoming days.
