The 2nd edition of the Major Cricket League (MLC) is set to commence from the 5th of July (Friday) to the 28th of July 2024 (Sunday) in the USA Texas, and North Carolina. According to the date and timings in India, the tournament starts on 6th July (Saturday) and completes on 29th July (Monday).

Since the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted the MLC official List A status, this tournament has become an official T20 league for the USA and a world-class domestic tournament.

The opening match of the MLC 2024 tournament starts with an interesting clash between the defending champions MI New York (MINY) and the runner-up Seattle Orcas (SOR). It would be interesting to watch if Seattle Orcas can settle its score with MI New York to start their MLC 2024 campaign on a positive note

Which Teams are participating in MLC 2024?

Here are the six teams participating in MLC 2024 includes:

1. MI New York (MINY)
2. Seattle Orcas (SOR)
3. Texas Super Kings (TSK)
4. Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR)
5. Washington Freedom (WAF)
6. San Francisco Unicorns (SFU)

Out of the six teams, four of them are owned by the franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which includes:

1. MI New York: Mumbai Indians
2. Texas Super Kings: Chennai Super Kings
3. LA Knight Riders: Kolkata Knight Riders
4. Seattle Orcas: Delhi Capitals

In other words, these four teams seem to be the replicas of the IPL franchises.

All the participating teams have a few top international cricketers in their squad for MLC 2024. For instance, MI New York possesses the West Indies batter Kieron Pollard whereas the South African cricketers Wayne Parnell and Quinton de Kock promise to deliver their best contribution for Seattle Orcas.

Similar to the previous season, the MLC 2024 will be hosted at two main venues namely:

1. Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas
2. Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina

What is the format of MLC 2024?

All 6 teams will play in a T20 format in MLC 2024. Each team competes against every other in a round-robin set-up, with one at the home ground and another at the opponent’s venue.

The top 4 teams will qualify for the playoffs and participate in three different rounds before entering the finals:

• Eliminator: 3rd vs 4th
• Qualifier: 1st vs 2nd
• Challenger: (Winner of Eliminator round) vs (Loser of Qualifier round).
• Final: (Winner of Qualifier round) vs (Winner of challenger round)

Teams ranking in the top two positions in the MLC 2024 points table will clash in the Qualifier round and the winner directly qualifies into the finals. However, the advantage of securing the first two spots in the points table is that the loser of the Qualifier round still gets a chance to compete with the winner of the Eliminator in the Challenger stage. The winner of the challenger and Qualifier round will compete against each other in the Final.
