Today, we will discuss how Bangladesh can improve its form for the Mens T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
Bangladesh had a poor run of form in the T20Is. They lost their last two T20I series against West Indies (by 2-0) and Zimbabwe (by 2-1). And now they are out of the Asia Cup 2022.
For Bangladesh, it is important to have good form and good balance in the team while going to the Mens T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh will now play a Tri-Series in New Zealand involving Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Pakistan. It is important for them to find out the answers to the problem before the Mens T20 World Cup.
Some of the steps Bangladesh needs to take before the Mens T20 World Cup:
1. Senior players have to step up:
Some of the senior players like Shakib ul Hasan, Mahmudullah, M Rahman, M Rahim, etc need to step up if Bangladesh wants to win the Mens T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
Their experience and form are vital for the team going into the marquee tournament. It will help the youngster to play well as they have a backup of seniors.
2. Not depending on only 3-4 individuals: (Mens T20 World Cup)
As we discussed in the earlier point, senior players need to step up. But Bangladesh has to understand they will not be dependent on 3 or 4 individuals.
Every player needs to step up and know their role in the team. A big team is one that is not dependent on individuals.
3. Playing on good tracks when they play at home:
In the recent past year, when Bangladesh hosts the teams for a T20I series, they prepared tracks that are very tricky, two-paced, and spinner friendly. It was very difficult for the batters to score runs on those pitches against both pacers and spinners.
Although they beat two big teams New Zealand and Australia in a T20I series on those pitches, it is not a long-term solution.
T20 cricket all over the world is played on decent tracks. Bangladesh needs to prepare good T20 pitches so that they are used to playing on a big stage.
4. Changing the approach to playing T20 cricket:
T20 cricket all around the globe has changed. The teams have changed their way and approach to playing T20 cricket.
Bangladesh needs to learn from others and have to change its approach. Right now, they are seeing T20 cricket as the extension of ODI cricket.
They have to capitalize on the powerplay. Also, they have to play with intent for a longer period as other teams do.
5. They need a quality all-rounder: (Mens T20 World Cup)
Bangladesh needs a quality all-rounder for the Mens T20 World Cup who can bring X Factor in the team.
They have Shakib ul Hasan in the team but someone who can hit the ball long and can give you the overs when needed is a must. That kind of player gives a proper balance to the team.
6. Have to have backup options in the bowling department for the death overs:
Bangladesh has some decent pacers in T Ahmed and M Rahman. But they need another pacer in backup when someone has an off day.
They need someone who can partner with M Rahman in death overs as teams get the momentum at the back end of the inning.
Bangladesh has to give chances to some of the youngsters to test them in the upcoming T20Is before the Mens T20 World Cup.
7. Top order has to be consistent:
The top order has to be consistent. If the top order does well in the Mens T20 World Cup, they can score some big runs on the board.
8. Needs a good quality wrist spinner in the T20 World Cup:
Every team has some quality wrist spinners to bowl in middle overs. Wrist spinners are a must nowadays, especially in T20 cricket. Teams can control the game in middle overs through wrist spinners.
Teams like India, Afghanistan, England, Australia, etc have some quality wrist spinners in Y Chahal, R Khan, A Rashid, A Zampa, etc.
So these are a few points which we discussed on how Bangladesh can improve their form for the Mens T20 World Cup. They have a Tri-Series coming up in New Zealand. It is a perfect time for them to test out before the M
