The franchise on 14th January 2024(Sunday) took on social media to sign the talented all-rounder for the approaching season.
Besides Arif and Nawaz, Khulna Tigers included two more players in the squad namely:

Among the local cricketers, there are other experienced international players such as:
- Anamul Haque Bijoy

- and Afif Hossain.
Khulna Tigers will start the BPL 2024 campaign by playing its first match against Chattogram Challengers on 20th January.
However, with three days ahead of the tournament, Khulna Tigers is yet to decide its captain. Earlier, Yasir Ali Rabbi led the team in the previous season and was later replaced by Shai Hope in the middle of the BPL 2024 tournament.
It is believed that either Afif Hossain Dhrubo or Bijoy can be appointed as the skipper.
Arif Ahmed made his debut for Chittagong Division in the National Cricket League during 2001-02. He also played List ‘A’ cricket. But the 31-year-old Bangladeshi cricketer is still waiting for his T20 debut.
In first-class cricket, he played 7 matches and took 26 wickets in 11 innings with his best bowling figures of 6-76. Whereas, in List ‘A’ cricket, he took 23 wickets in 20 matches by maintaining his impressive record of 3-35.
However, being a handy batsman his scores aren’t as impressive as the bowling records.
Nevertheless, Ahmed’s ability to adapt to the local variations and analyze the opposition team’s weaknesses can help Khulna Tigers overcome the close-edged encounters.
Unlike Arif Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz has been a regular face of the Pakistan national cricket team. His ability to grab wickets as a left-arm spin bowler as well as the effective batting in the lower order makes him a valuable asset.
Moreover, Nawaz has considerable experience playing for Pakistan Super League. Also, he has contributed his best efforts in the Lanka Premier League.
Perhaps, this could be the main reason why Khulna Tigers signed Mohammad Nawaz and included an extra player at the last minute.
In the previous edition, he represented Rangpur Riders. Overall, Mohammad Nawaz played 11 BPL matches and scored 224 runs. It includes his highest score of 54 runs in a single BPL match.
With a familiar face in international cricket, Nawaz can add a new dimension to the squad with his experience and dynamic approach to the game.
Especially, during the middle overs he can control the match with his accurate spinning techniques with the ball.
Mainly, his ability to build partnerships not only prevents the quick fall of wickets but also boosts the overall team’s total.
Having shared the dressing room with other star cricketers like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in many international matches, he can guide the young players in the squad.
Earlier, he replaced Noman Ali for the 2nd and 3rd test matches of the series against Australia in 2023-24. But the all-rounder was made to sit among the bench players.
Currently, the PCB included Nawaz for the 3rd T20I match of the series against New Zealand. It is the replacement for the injured Abbas Afridi in the ongoing 5-match T20I series.
Finally, the Khulna Tigers signed Mohammad Nawaz along with the unfamiliar player Arif Ahmed to sharpen their claws for BPL 2024.
While Nawaz brings a touch of experience, Arif Ahmed with a raw talent can make an impressive performance in the shorter version of the game.
Furthermore, Arif Ahmed’s familiarity with the Bangladeshi pitches can be a key factor for his team’s success.
These three different venues will host the entire BPL 2024 tournament:
