IPL Playoffs: DC or RCB – Who Have The Best Chance

IPL 2024: DC or RCB – Which team has the best odds to make it to playoffs?

Delhi Capitals have the best odds to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs when compared to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This would be only possible if any of these three competitive teams such as Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lose their remaining matches in the league stages.

After the 58th match of IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s run rate was enhanced by securing a thumping victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 60 runs.

Interestingly, the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will clash against each other on 12th May 2024 (Sunday) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It is a must-win match for both teams to remain in the hunt for the IPL playoffs race. In simpler terms, Delhi and Bengaluru have two more matches remaining and losing even one of these games would lead to their elimination from the tournament.

Since every team must achieve a minimum of 16 points to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs, let us find out the chances of DC and RCB in detail…

DC vs RCB: Who will make it into the IPL playoffs?

DC and RCB have played 12 matches in the IPL 2024 so far, and it would be interesting to predict their chances of staying alive in the IPL playoffs race based on their performances, position in the points table and the upcoming matches:

Delhi Capitals (DC): 12 Points with -0.316 NRR (5th Position)

Out of 12 matches, Delhi Capitals secured 6 wins and 6 losses, which makes them rank at the 5th position in the points table with a negative Net Run Rate (NRR). However, they need to win their remaining two matches with a huge margin to boost their net run rate as well as guarantee their survival by gaining 16 points.

On the other side, Sunrisers Hyderabad (14 points with +0.406 NRR) still have 2 more games and Chennai Super Kings (12 points with +0.700 NRR) have 3 more matches remaining. If these two teams manage to win their upcoming matches, then they could easily secure 16 points or more. As a result, the chances of DC qualifying for the IPL playoffs will be completely shattered, even if they win their remaining two games against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The presence of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs are the backbone of the DC’s batting lineup. However, their bowling department has been ineffective by allowing the opponent teams to easily score 200+ runs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): 10 Points with +0.217 NRR (7th Position)

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru currently has 5 wins and 7 losses out of the 12 games played, which places them in the 7th position in the points table. Especially, after securing their first victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 25th March 2024, RCB faced 6 consecutive losses in the tournament and took nearly a month to secure another win in the ongoing season.

Mainly, the talented batters in the squad namely Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Will Jacks, Cameron Green and Dinesh Karthik have played a crucial role in elevating the batting performance. Most importantly, after facing back-to-back losses, the bowling line-up has bounced back and ensured to restrict the opponent team’s momentum to score huge runs.

It would be challenging for RCB to win their upcoming matches against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Even if they triumph in the remaining two games, they will be able to secure only 14 points, thereby falling 2 points short of the eligibility criteria to enter into the IPL playoffs. Moreover, RCB should hope other teams lose all their upcoming games, which seems completely impossible.

IPL 2024: Why Are There So Many 200-plus Scores?

CONCLUSION:

The qualification chances of Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru highlight the competitive nature of the IPL 2024. At the same time, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are striving to seal either the 3rd or 4th position in the points table.

However, the good news for RCB is that their net run rate is superior when compared to DC and LSG. Meanwhile, you will doubt what if all of these teams such as SRH, CSK, LSG, DC and RCB finish with 14 points before the playoffs. In such circumstances, RCB would have higher chances of qualifying for the playoffs only if they continue to improve their net run rate by winning their upcoming matches.

Notably, if any two of these three teams such as LSG, CSK or DC conclude with 16 points in the league stages, then it is confirmed that RCB would be knocked out of the ongoing season.

Overall, the upcoming 12 games of the league stages prove to be crucial for the best-performing teams to amplify their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
