IPL 2025 Updates: Ashish Nehra, and Vikram Solanke to leave GT! Yuvraj Singh expected to join the coaching staff

The former Indian cricketer and head coach of Gujarat Titans (GT) Ashish Nehra might leave the franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition. Also, GT’s director of cricket Vikram Solanki seems to have taken the same decision.

Since the debut season in 2022, both Nehra and Solanki have been with the franchise that won its maiden title in the same year and concluded as the runner-up in the next edition in 2023 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. Also, Ashish Nehra became the first Indian coach to win an IPL title in 2022.

Shockingly, the Titans led by Shubman Gill concluded at the eighth position in the IPL 2024 points table.

Mainly, Hardik Pandya’s trade to Mumbai Indians made the Gujarat Titans struggle to find a perfect balance in the playing XI. Additionally, Mohammed Shami’s absence due to an injury has weakened the bowling lineup. Since things didn’t turn out well in the previous season, there are chances that Nehra and Solanki might conclude their stint with GT.

The latest reports suggest that the former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh might join the coaching staff of Gujarat Titans, but the final decision is yet to be taken. There will be several changes behind the scenes for the GT staff. Gary Kirsten, who was the mentor of the team, has stepped down from his role after taking up the new full-time job as the white ball cricket head coach for the Pakistan national team.

A Close Source Confirms the Resignation of Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki

Here are the latest updates about Nehra and Solanki’s decision to step down from their roles and move away from GT: “Yes! There are several changes on the way. Mostly, they both (Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki) might not continue and the discussions about Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) have already started. As of now, nothing is finalized, but there could certainly be some significant changes in the coaching staff of Gujarat Titans for IPL 2025”, said one of the close sources.

Ashish Nehra and Yuvraj Singh have been good friends and together played many cricket matches for the Indian Cricket Team for a long time. Also, these two cricketers were part of Team India’s 2011 ODI World Cup winning squad led by MS Dhoni.

Understanding Between Yuvraj Singh and Shubman Gill: Chances to Recreate Success

Earlier, Yuvraj Singh mentored the Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill in his early cricketing days, and the duo share a great understanding off the field. Also, he guided Abhishek Sharma and several young players in Punjab. At the same time, the ex-Indian cricketer has no coaching experience in the Indian Premier League.

However, Yuvraj Singh as a head coach is a big surprise since he hasn’t been involved with any IPL franchise after his retirement. If he becomes the coach, it would be interesting to watch how he performs his duties and coordinates with another Punjab lad Shubman Gill.

Ashish Nehra’s Opinion about Gujarat Titans Former Skipper: Never Convinced Hardik Pandya To Stay Back

Before the commencement of IPL 2024, the GT head coach Ashish Nehra conveyed his opinion on Hardik Pandya’s decision to walk away from the team and said that he didn’t convince the former skipper to extend his stay:

“NO! I never convinced him (Hardik Pandya) to stay back. The way this sport is progressing, we will observe such transitions like it has happened before in the international club market of soccer”, Ashish Nehra said.

Final Thoughts

It is expected that the 18th edition of the IPL in 2025 will witness various changes in the coaching staff of most franchises. The next few weeks are going to be very exciting from the Gujarat Titans’ point of view as they are likely to formally announce their coaching staff.

Recently, Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan ten Doeschate left Kolkata Knight Riders to join the Indian cricket team’s coaching staff. On the other side, the former Australian captain Ricky Ponting was removed from the post of Delhi Capitals Head Coach. Also, Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 winning coach Rahul Dravid has been receiving highly lucrative offers from many IPL franchises and is expected to join Rajasthan Royals as the Head Coach in the next season.

Gujarat Titans has earlier parted ways with the winning captain Hardik Pandya and within a year, the franchise could lose its head coach Ashish Nehra, and director Vikram Solanke.

The official confirmation is yet to be made and if such happens, then it would be a challenge for Yuvraj Singh to achieve success with his first stint as a professional cricket team coach in IPL.

Finally, GT fans would expect the combination of Yuvraj-Gill to carry forward the legacy in the upcoming seasons.
