India captain Suryakumar Yadav to play under Sarfaraz Khan for Mumbai | Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament
India men’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is all set to play the pre-season Buchi Babu Invitational tournament for Mumbai. He will be seen playing from the 3rd round of the league stage and this was officially confirmed by the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association).
Recently, the Joint Secretary of Mumbai Cricket Association Mr. Deepak Patil confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav will be featuring in Mumbai’s match against TNCA XI. This match is scheduled to commence on 27th August 2024 in Coimbatore.
Right now, Mumbai has been the current Ranji Trophy holder which is lined up alongside TNCA XI and Haryana in Group C of the Buchi Babu tournament 2024 edition which is set to begin on 15th August 2024.
Suryakumar Yadav will play under Sarfaraz Khan
It is no more a rumor after the official confirmation by MCA that India’s test batsman Sarfaraz Khan will be the captain of Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament. However, this tournament is seen as the early preparation for the forthcoming domestic seasons of the year 2024 and 2025.
During the previous month, Suryakumar Yadav popularly known as SKY was seen in action as team India captain leading the nation to a 3-0 T20I series sweep against Sri Lanka at Pallekele.
After that during the three-match ODI series in Colombo, he was not selected due to the decision from Ajit Agarkar who is the selection committee chairman. The main reason to exclude SKY was stated that the right-handed batsman didn’t have a role in their soon-to-be-held 50-over plans and this is the present decision for the moment.
Buchi Babu Tournament and Duleep Trophy to push Suryakumar into Test Squad
India is having its next T20I assignment which is the three-match home series against Bangladesh and this series is set to begin from October 2024. Whereas, Suryakumar Yadav is having the lineup of the Buchi Babu tournament and Duleep Trophy in Anantapur which would grant him the opportunity to push himself into the Indian test squad.
Suryakumar Yadav has only one appearance in the test matches whereas in the first-class matches, he managed to score 5628 runs with an average of 43.62 which includes his 29 half-centuries and 14 centuries.

Suryakumar Yadav about Buchi Babu Tournament 2024 Edition
We all know that the Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will be participating in the 2024 edition of the Buchi Babu invitational tournament, which will soon begin on the 15th of August. Suryakumar Yadav has conveyed to Sandeep Patil, the Committee Chief of the Mumbai Cricket Association regarding his availability and participation in that multi-day event.
Sarfaraz Khan who is India’s wicketkeeper-batsman will be leading the team because, at present, the regular captaining Ajinkya Rahane is playing for Leicestershire in the One-Day Tournament.

“Certainly! As of surety, I will be participating in the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament, and I am confident about the value it will add before the beginning of the domestic season. And, I confirm that I will be available to play for Mumbai and my club team.”

Mumbai Cricket Association Source Praises Suryakumar Yadav for His Participation
According to the sources received from MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association), Suryakumar Yadav has confirmed his agreement to participate in the forthcoming Buchi Babu Tournament. As a result, Suryakumar’s name is added to the Mumbai squad. One of the committee squad who had given this information appreciated Suryakumar saying that he is of course one of those limited players who has been consistently representing Team Mumbai in domestic cricket at his available time.
In addition, the source added on saying about Suryakumar Yadav that he was the one who suggested keeping Sarfaraz Khan as the team captain. This means that Suryakumar Yadav will participate in the Buchi Babu Tournament not as the leader, but as a regular team member under Sarfaraz Khan’s captaincy.
