The Bangladesh cricket team has evolved over the years and we have seen some great performances from them especially in limited overs format. And more particularly, the Bangladesh cricket team has played very well in the shortest format of the game and has won many series over the years in T20Is.
But they have failed to win the multi-nation tournament in T20s. The ICC T20 World Cup started in 2007, and now, eight editions have already been played. But the Bangladesh cricket team’s performance hasn’t been up to the mark. There are a few other teams in Asia like India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, who won the ICC T20 World Cup but the Bangladesh cricket team have failed to do so.
Today, we will see the records of the Bangladesh cricket team in the ICC T20 World Cup and their performances. Let’s first see the winners of the ICC T20 World Cups and the Bangladesh team’s performance in those editions.

2007, South Africa
Team India won the inaugural season under the leadership of a new captain MS Dhoni. Many big names like S Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, etc didn’t go to play in that tournament and a young Indian team won that tournament by beating their arch-rival Pakistan in the final by 5 runs.
Then, in the Super 8, they lost to New Zealand. But they beat England and South Africa and entered in the knockouts.
In the knockouts, they beat Australia by 15 runs and then eventually won in the final against Pakistan.
Bangladesh’s performance in 2007
In the 2007 ICC T20 WC, the Bangladesh cricket team went to the Super 8 stage by beating West Indies in the first stage. Although they lost to South Africa but manages to enter into Super 8.
In the Super 8, they lost all three games and were knocked out of the tournament. They lost to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Australia in that Super 8 stage.
2009, England
Pakistan won that tournament by beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Bangladesh cricket team lost both games against India and Ireland in the first stage.
2010, West Indies
England won the tournament by beating their arch-rival Australia in the final.

They lost to Australia and Pakistan in the first stage. And they didn’t even reach the next stage of the tournament.
2012, Sri Lanka
West Indies won the final by beating Sri Lanka.

Just like the previous two editions of the ICC T20 World Cup, they didn’t reach the next stage. They lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in the first stage and were knocked out of the tournament.
2014, Bangladesh
Sri Lanka won the tournament by beating India in the final.

In 2014, Bangladesh themselves hosted the tournament. Bangladesh cricket team’s fate didn’t change that year as well, even though the format was changed.
In Group 2 at the first stage, they lost all 4 games against India, West Indies, Pakistan, and Australia.
2016, India
West Indies won the tournament for the 2nd time. They beat England in the final when C Brathwaite hit 4 sixes to Ben Stokes in the last over.

At first, the Bangladesh cricket team played the qualifiers to go into the next stage of the tournament. Bangladesh won their two games against Netherlands and Oman, and rain washed out one game against Ireland.
Then, in the league stages, they lost all four games and were knocked out of the tournament. They were very close to winning the game against India. But fell just one run short in a run chase. The other three teams, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand won convincingly against Bangladesh.
2021, UAE and Oman
Australia won the tournament by beating New Zealand in the final.

Bangladesh played the qualifiers to advance to the Super 12 stage. They won two games against Oman and Papua New Guinea and lost to Scotland in the qualifiers.
In the Super 12 stage, they didn’t even win a single game. They lost to England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies in Group 1 and were knocked out of the tournament.
2022, Australia
England won the title by beating Pakistan in the final.
Bangladesh’s Performance in 2022
Bangladesh directly qualified in the Super 12 of the ICC T20 WC 2022. They managed to win two close games against the Netherlands by 9 runs and Zimbabwe by 3 runs. But they lost three games against India, Pakistan, and South Africa and were knocked out of the tournament.
Highest run scorer for Bangladesh in T20 WCs
Shakib ul Hasan is the highest run scorer for Bangladesh in ICC T20 WCs. He scored 742 runs with an average of 23.93 and a strike rate of 122.44 in 36 games.
Highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in T20 WCs
Shakib ul Hasan is the highest wicket-taker as well for Bangladesh and even overall. He is the highest wicket-taker in ICC T20 WCs till now with 47 wickets at an average of 18.63 and a strike rate of 16.48.
So overall, the Bangladesh cricket team’s performance in the ICC T20 World Cup is not good enough. Even they were very poor in most of the editions; not reaching into the knockouts even once.
