Babar Azam, the former Pakistan cricket team captain is getting ruthlessly trolled on social media after the opening of a two-match test series against Bangladesh on 21st August 2024. In this match, Babar had a 2-ball duck, played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto invited the hosts to bat first. Unfortunately, the Shan Masood’s led side had a very poor start, where the Bangladeshi pace bowlers had dismissed 3 Pakistani batsmen within the first 9 overs of the innings.
2-ball DUCK OUT: Netizens Troll Babar Azam Brutally!
Hasan Mahmud knocked out Abdullah Shafique in just 2 runs and that is when the 1st wicket of the Pakistan team fell in the 4th over. Whereas, Shoriful Islam dismissed the Pakistani captain Shan Masood in just 6 runs. Further, the worst thing that happened to Pakistan, was Shoriful dismissing Babar Azam by bowling a back-of-a-length ball on the leg stump causing a 2-ball duck which weakened the team to 16-3 in 8.2 overs.
The right-hand batsman was in forward movement, attempting to redirect the ball to the leg side, but unfortunately, the ball just brushed the bat. And, that is when the Bangladesh wicket-keeper Liton Das skidded to his left side, taking a mind-blowing one-hand catch which caused Babar’s duck.
Unfavorably, Babar Azam is having a tough time in his test cricketing where the right-handed batsman couldn’t make at least a 50-run score in the last 10 innings.
Although Babar’s recent dismissal was based on luck and was unexpected, still fans seem to not miss a chance to brutally troll him on social media. And, this is because Babar was not successful in contributing anything from his side during the first test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.
Babar Azam’s Miserable Journey in Test Cricket from 2023
If we closely look at Babar Azam’s scores and career stats regarding the test cricket from January 2023, it is evident to be a disaster. Unfortunately, Babar could just make 253 runs with a dismal average of 21.08 and during this time, he had not made at least one single half-century in Test cricket.
Ever since the Asia Cup 2023, Babar Azam was not capable of scoring 100s or 50s against Nepal. Further, after the ODI World Cup 2023, where Pakistan got knocked straight out of the group stage, Babar had to step down from captaincy across all formats. Later he was brought back as captain for Pakistan’s limited-overs squad in advance of the 2024 T20 World Cup. In that tournament, Pakistan was eliminated from the group stage after it lost to the USA and India.
Impact on Pakistan Team’s Wellbeing and Performance
Yet another concern within the team was the tension between Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi in the dressing room. According to reports, the differences between these two star players have been growing over time which possibly affects the team balance and relations.
On top of that, Babar Azam is facing severe criticism regarding his recent disastrous performances, especially for not scoring at least a 50 in important matches. Being a key batsman of Pakistan, Babar has been struggling to get his form and this scenario has put him under intense pressure. However, these issues have to be addressed as a priority or else it could negatively influence the whole team’s psychological well-being. And, it will also impact the squad’s performance in the forthcoming competitions which will make it a very difficult phase for Pakistan cricket.
The crowd shouts “Zimbabar”: Severe Criticism reminds of Hardik Pandya
After Babar Azam got knocked out with a 2-ball duck, he has been facing brutal trolls on social media. But all this has been digital, whereas it eventually started from the ground itself. As soon as Babar was dismissed by the Bangladeshi bowler, the crowd started chanting “ZIMBABAR”.
This booed moment and severe criticism reminds us of Hardik Pandya who was also a victim of brutal trolling and crowd booing at his performance in the IPL (Indian Premier League).
However, Hardik Pandya was successful in proving his greatest comeback in the T20 World Cup 2024.
But regarding Babar Azam, fans and spectators are left with ZERO hope as his journey in the Test matches was miserable.
Babar Azam plays well only against WEAK Teams: Netizens roast his career stats asking him not to compare with KING Kohli
Previously Babar Azam was compared to Virat Kohli, but now no one is ready to even put those 2 names side-by-side because of Babar’s disastrous performances.
Netizens compare his stats and say that Babar was always able to score well against the weaker teams only.
Here is a post on X where a user had posted a screenshot of Babar Azam’s stats and captioned it as “Ghante ka King” referring to it not to compare with King Kohli.
He posted saying that:
“Yeah! Unfortunately, Babar Azam failed miserably to score a minimum of at least 50 runs during his previous 16 innings, and such a blunder? Why? Babar had to face tough teams like Australia and New Zealand, where his average against those teams was just 21 in the last series. Babar is not at all capable of handling challenging conditions. And, he can perform well only against the weak teams.”
