
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has arranged for a small opening ceremony on the same day as the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 curtain raiser, scheduled for December 26 (Friday).
Earlier, the BCB agreed to commence the 12th edition of the league without any grand opening ceremony. This decision was made following Bangladesh’s strict instructions to avoid mass gatherings and to maximize the protection of every individual without organizing any pre-function events.
Venue to Host BPL 2025-26 Short Opening Ceremony
The short opening ceremony of BPL 2025-26 will take place in Sylhet on December 26, 2025. As per the latest reports, the senior Bangladeshi government officials suggested postponing the opening ceremony four days after the initially planned date (on December 24).
However, BCB clarified that such sudden changes would affect the overseas players’ availability throughout the tournament.
BPL 2025-26 Ceremony Impact on Opener Match Timings
For the inaugural day of the BPL 2025-26, the league’s event technical committee has issued a notice on Saturday (December 21) to clarify the revised match timings.
The tournament will kickstart as per the scheduled dates, where Sylhet Titans will face off against Rajshahi Warriors. But, the afternoon match’s timings will commence at 03 pm rather than the previously planned timings at 02 pm, as per the local zone.
Likewise, the evening match on the same date between Noakhali Express and Chattogram Royals will start at 07:45 pm instead of 07 pm.

Any Changes in the Entire BPL 2025-26 Schedule?
Apart from the double header contests in the season opener, the fixtures for the remainder of the BPL 2025-26 remain unaltered.
As per the previously planned schedule, the afternoon matches would commence at 01 pm and evening games at 06 pm BST. However, on Fridays, the pattern is unique with matches commencing at 02 pm and 07 pm according to the local zone timings.
BCB’s Promise: Crowd and Players’ Safety in BPL 2026 Matches?
Along with the BPL Governing Council, the BCB has taken initiatives to guarantee a secure and well-protected environment for individuals attending the matches. Here is the formal statement released ahead of the league’s commencement:
“Yes! The preparations are in progress, and the Governing Council promises to ensure a safe and smoothly operated environment for players, match officials, concerned stakeholders, and spectators involved in the game. The main focus of this operational preparation is to ensure everyone is fully prepared and ready to perform their roles effectively.
Right now, we are not organizing any mega opening ceremonies due to the situation of the nation as well as the big security concerns. At this moment, we prioritize playing more cricket.
BCB and the Governing Council of the BPL are keen to welcome enthusiastic fans to the stadium and promise to deliver an entertaining tournament that outlines the true spirit, joy, and exceptional quality of the BPL T20 2026,” the statement read.
All the matches of the BPL 2026 between December 26 and January 23 will be hosted across three different venues in Bangladesh, namely:
- Sylhet: Sylhet Cricket Stadium
- Chattogram: MA Aziz Stadium
- Dhaka: Sher-E Bangla National Stadium
So, it is understood that the crowd gathering at the stadium wouldn’t impact the proceedings of the BPL matches.

BPL 2026 Separate Opening Ceremony in Dhaka Cancelled
Similar to the previous seasons, the BPL committee planned for a grand opening ceremony before the cancellation.
The estimated ticket prices for the event varied according to different categories, starting with the Shaheed Jewel Stand for 2500 BDT, to the Platinum Category worth 12000 BDT.
Earlier, the event was supposed to take place at the Sher-E-Bangla International Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on December 24, 2025, between 4 pm and 10 pm (local timings), which is two days before the first match of BPL season 12.
Ahead of the opening match on December 26, visitors set high expectations for a grand ceremony, hoping to watch some high-octane performances and sensational musical concerts by the highly celebrated stars.
With the General elections confirmed to take place on February 12, 2026, the opening ceremony was cancelled due to security concerns in the nation.
