In response to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sledging in the Perth Test, Mitchell Starc reacted with his first delivery in the pink ball test in Adelaide. The Indian opener sledged the veteran Australian pacer in the previous match saying ‘too slow bowling at me’. However, Starc once again proved to the world that he is still one of the best bowlers in the world by dismissing Jaiswal for a golden duck with a new pink ball in the currently ongoing 2nd test.
The 34-year-old Aussie released the ball targeting the leg stump that struck straight onto Jaiswal’s pad, who attempted to cover the line by moving across but failed to hit the ball with perfection.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was left awestruck by the LBW dismissal and walked back to the pavilion without asking for a review after discussing with his opening pair KL Rahul.
On Day 1 of the second test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, Mitchell Starc’s 6-wicket haul along with Pat Cummins and Scott Boland grabbing 2 wickets each, bundled out India’s innings to 180 in 44.1 overs. Moreover, he accomplished one of the most memorable records in his career to take more than 350 wickets in all formats at home.
Before the commencement of the Day/Night tests in Adelaide, Starc opened up about the sledging incident he had with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the series opener.
Mitchell Starc About Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Cheeky Sledging
In a recent conversation with cricket.com.au, Mitchell Starc recalled the sledging incident with Yashasvi Jaiswal that happened during the second innings of the first test at the Optus Stadium in Perth:
“NO! I didn’t listen to his comments about bowling too slowly. Moreover, I haven’t reacted too much in recent times. He played a flick shot and in the next same type of delivery, he defended it. I asked what happened to the flick shot, and he giggled at me, and we just wrapped it there itself,” Starc said.
Furthermore, the Australian fast bowler praised Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fearless approach in the same interview:
“Yeah! He played a terrific cricket for the Indian cricket team, particularly in the second innings. Although it was his first test, he managed to adapt to the conditions. He was dismissed easily in the first innings but came back stronger, so the entire credit goes to him. He is one of those unexplored generations of young cricketers all over the world,” Mitchell Starc shared his opinion about Jaiswal’s batting skills.

Mitchell Starc vs Yashasvi Jaiswal in Perth Test BGT 2024-25
The rivalry between Mitchell Starc and Yashasvi Jaiswal has made the ongoing 5-match test series more intriguing.
In the first innings, Jaiswal was dismissed by Starc for a duck but made an impressive comeback in the second innings to score his first-ever test century of the longest format in Australia.
Although, Mitchell Starc recorded noteworthy figures of 2-14 in 11 overs with 3 maiden overs on the opening day of the first test, but ended up with mediocre figures of 1-111 in 26 overs during India’s 2nd innings. However, he was able to break the 201-run opening partnership by ending KL Rahul’s 77-run knock, but couldn’t dismiss Jaiswal who went on to score 161 runs that played a crucial role in India’s 295-run victory.
Australian Bowlers with the Most Wickets in Home Conditions
Mitchell Starc’s 6-fer makes him rank as the fourth Australian bowler to grab 350-plus wickets across all formats at home and joins the former legendary bowlers Brett Lee and Shane Warne in the list:
| Player | Wickets | Matches |
| Shane Warne | 453 | 153 |
| Glenn McGrath | 449 | 161 |
| Brett Lee | 360 | 142 |
| Mitchell Starc | 351 | 127 |
| Craig McDermott | 318 | 131 |
| Dennis Lillee | 300 | 85 |
Overall Thoughts:
Mitchell Starc achieved his first-ever 5-fer against India in test cricket, which is indeed his fourth in the pink ball tests. In comparison, none of the bowlers even managed to take more than two 5-wicket hauls in the Day/ Night tests, which makes the Aussie’s record stand out superior.
Finally, Starc gives a perfect response to Jaiswal’s sledding bybecoming the leading wicket-taker in pink ball tests bagging 72 wickets in 24 innings (13 matches) to date, ranking ahead of his teammates Nathon Lyon (43 wickets), Josh Hazlewood (37 wickets), and Pat Cummins (34 wickets).
