The Men’s Asia Cup is returning to Bangladesh after 12 years, with the tournament scheduled to take place between June 18 and July 4, 2027. If approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), it will be the country’s first time hosting a major men’s multi-nation event since 2016.
The tournament will be played in the 50-over format, giving Asian teams a valuable run before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa later in the year. That alone makes this edition far more than another continental competition. Every squad is likely to treat it as a serious dress rehearsal for the biggest event on the ODI calendar.
Six Teams, One Trophy
The competition is expected to feature six teams and a total of 13 matches.
The format remains familiar. Teams will first compete in two groups before the top sides move into the Super Four stage. The two best-performing teams will then meet in the final.
The expected line-up includes:
- India (defending champions)
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
- Bangladesh
- Afghanistan
- One qualifier from the Associate nations
With only a handful of matches before the knockout rounds, every game will matter. A slow start could leave even one of the favourites under pressure.
Stadiums Likely to Host the Tournament
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has proposed three venues that regularly host international cricket. These stadiums already have the facilities and experience required for a tournament of this scale.
| Venue | City | Expected Matches |
| Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium | Mirpur, Dhaka | Opening ceremony, marquee fixtures and likely final |
| Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium | Chattogram | Group-stage matches |
| Sylhet International Cricket Stadium | Sylhet | Group-stage matches |
Dhaka is widely expected to stage the tournament’s biggest encounters, including the final on July 4, although the official schedule is still awaiting approval.
A Timely ODI Tournament
The Asia Cup doesn’t always follow the same format. It switches between T20 and ODI cricket depending on the next ICC event.
After the T20 edition in 2025, the tournament returns to one-day cricket in 2027, which makes perfect sense. Teams can use the opportunity to evaluate their batting lineup, bowling partnership, and game strategy in the environment where players need to play patiently instead of hitting hard.
It is also important to mention that the selectors will be observing the performance closely. Playing well in the Asia Cup can easily make a case for selection in the World Cup.
India’s Participation Remains in Focus
Whenever India and Pakistan are involved in a tournament hosted by either nation, attention naturally shifts beyond cricket.
There have been administrative differences between the BCCI and BCB in recent years, but Bangladesh’s new cricket board leadership, headed by President Aminul Haque, has been working to maintain healthy communication with all participating boards.
The BCB has also assured the ACC that comprehensive security arrangements will be in place throughout the competition. Officials believe these preparations should allow every visiting team to travel and compete without concern.
Official Confirmation Still Pending
Although the proposed dates and venues have already been discussed at board level, the tournament still requires formal approval from the ACC.
That decision is expected during the ACC Executive Board meeting in September 2026.
Once the tournament receives the green light, fans can expect the complete fixture list, ticket information, and broadcast schedule to follow shortly afterwards.
Why This Tournament Matters for Bangladesh
Hosting the Asia Cup is more than adding another international event to the calendar.
It gives Bangladesh another opportunity to showcase its stadiums, organisational ability and passionate cricket culture. Local businesses, hotels, and tourism are also likely to benefit from thousands of travelling supporters.
The return of top international teams should create an atmosphere rarely seen outside ICC tournaments. Packed stadiums in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet would hardly come as a surprise.

Looking Ahead
Everything going according to plan, the 2027 Asia Cup is sure to be one of the major cricket tournaments in Asia before the World Cup.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are sure to come with strong teams, while the team representing the qualifying Associate side will get a chance to challenge itself against some of the best ODI teams in the world.
For Bangladesh, hosting the tournament is an opportunity to deliver another successful international event. For the participating teams, it could become the final chance to settle combinations before the World Cup. And for cricket fans, it sets the stage for more than two weeks of high-quality ODI cricket filled with familiar rivalries and plenty at stake.
