Bangladesh cricket board has announced the squad for the Ireland series, Taskin Ahmed is out with an injury, and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury gets a call up in the national side.
Bangladesh cricket team is set to host Ireland for a three-match ODI series in England. It will be an important series for the Ireland team as they will look to win it by a margin of 3-0 if they want a direct qualification. If Ireland failed to do so, they will have to play the qualifiers in Zimbabwe to go into the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.
Bangladesh cricket team’s squad, which will play against Ireland is full of experienced players like Shakib ul Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Mustafizur Rahman, etc. The team will take on Ireland in three ODIs, all will be played at County Ground, Chelmsford. There are not so many changes in the squad. Only two changes are there from the squad who beat Ireland 2-0 in an ODI series, earlier this month in Sylhet.
Taskin Ahmed is out with an injury
One of the premium pacers, Taskin Ahmed is out of the series with a side strain injury. He also missed out Dhaka test against Ireland earlier.
Mrittunjoy Chowdhary, a young left-arm fast bowler gets the opportunity in the squad. He has done well in the domestic circuit in the last couple of years and he took 15 wickets in 10 games of the Dhaka Premier League as well. He played well in the previous two Bangladesh Premier League seasons as well, claiming 15 and 8 wickets, respectively. Throughout the domestic season, Mrittunjoy also bowled numerous times in the nets for the Bangladeshi national team’s practice.
Surely, he will be the one to look for in the future. Other pace battery in the team consists of Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Hasan Mahmud.
Taijul Islam comes in for Nasum Ahmed
It is a like-for-like replacement as Taijul will give another left-arm spinning option along with Shakib ul Hasan.
The rest of the squad is the same. Along with Yasir Ali, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and the remarkable Towhid Hridoy, the squad is still intact. Rony Talukdar, who made a spectacular comeback into the senior team and performed admirably in the T20Is despite having yet to play in an ODI, is the backup opener.
The senior batsman Mahmudullah, who was benched for the Ireland ODIs at home last month, is therefore still not included in the team.
Ireland also announced their squad
Team Ireland has also announced their squad for the three-match ODI series against the Bangladesh cricket team in England. They have gone with a full-strength squad as the important ICC World Super League points are at stake.
Ireland has included Josh Little, who is currently playing for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL. He is the only Ireland player representing in the IPL.
The left-arm pacer’s national commitment will cause him to miss at least three games. He will leave the franchise in May 2023.
Young also made a comeback in ODIs
Craig Young, who missed out most of 2022-23 due to injury, is also included in the squad. He made a comeback last month against Bangladesh T20Is. Barry McCarthy, however, misses out due to a knee injury.

If Ireland is able to clean sweep the series against the Bangladesh cricket team, they will directly qualify for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India. And South Africa will be out of the direct qualification in the World Cup in India later this year.
That is why, it is a very important series for Team Ireland. While Bangladesh is already qualified for the WC; sitting at No. 4 in the points table of the ICC World Super League. They will look to stamp their authority in that series.
The series will begin on May 09 with the first ODI, followed by May 12 and 14.
South Africa will hope that Bangladesh will win at least one game. Or either won the series. Let’s see how Ireland copes with this challenge. It will not be easier for them as Bangladesh are a very mature team in this format over the years.
