Bangladesh Cricket Team’s Concerns For The Upcoming T20 World Cup?

The Mens T20 World Cup is just less than 50 days away and we are looking forward to the marquee tournament in Australia later this year.

Before the Mens T20 World Cup, will the Bangladesh cricket team is ready or not? This is the topic we are discussing in this article.

Bangladesh was out of the Asia Cup 2022 even before reaching the Super 4 stage. They lost both the games against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka and got out of the tournament.

Bangladesh’s recent form in T20 cricket is a bit of a concern for them. They also lost their last two T20I series against West Indies (WI) by 2-0 and Zimbabwe 2-1.

As far as the Mens T20 World Cup is concerned, they will have to work on so many things. From a proper opening pair to the new leadership group, they have to sort things out as quickly as possible before the Mens T20 World Cup.

They have a Tri-Series coming up in New Zealand which will be a good opportunity to look for concerns and try to get things on line.

A few concerns for the Bangladesh cricket team before the Mens T20 World Cup are mentioned below:-

1. Too much dependence on senior players

Bangladesh has so many experienced players in the team with the likes of Shakib ul Hasan, M Riyad, M Rahim, etc. Their experience is important for the team but they are too reliant on the senior players to get the job done.

They need some young guns to step up as T20 cricket demands that. That is a bit of a concern for the team before the Mens T20 World Cup.

2. Old-fashioned approach to playing T20I cricket

Bangladesh plays T20 cricket as an extension of the ODIs. They need to change their approach as teams are getting ahead in terms of how T20 cricket should be played over the years.

They have to sort this out before the Mens T20 World Cup and they don’t have much time to do this.

3. New leadership group

Shakib ul Hasan has been given a responsibility to lead the side at least till the Mens T20 World Cup.

Before Shakib, Bangladesh tried a few candidates for the captaincy role. But too much change in the role might hamper the preparation for Bangladesh.

Shakib ul Hasan is an experienced campaigner and we are confident that he will do well in this new role.

4. Not having a proper opening combination

Bangladesh didn’t have a proper opening combination after the retirement of T Iqbal from T20Is. The opening is a very important part of T20 cricket as openers laid the foundation in the powerplay for the back end of the inning.

M Rahim was in news before the Asia Cup for the opening role. But Bangladesh didn’t give him the role. They have to find out the combination before the Mens T20 World Cup.

Maybe L Das is one of the two if he is fully fit.

5. Not having enough game time

Bangladesh didn’t have much time left before the Mens T20 World Cup. They didn’t have so many games to experiment the new things. This is a concern for Bangladesh to try a few things in less time.

6. Bangladesh is used to play on slowish tracks

Bangladesh won’t get slowish and sluggish surfaces where they rely heavily on their spinners to run through the opposition.

They prepared those wickets in the recent past at home and got the results as well. But this is not from a long-term perspective. T20 cricket is played on decent tracks all around the world.

7. They don’t have a seam bowling all-rounder and a wrist spinner

Bangladesh has to find out a good quality wrist spinner who can take wickets in the middle overs before the Mens T20 World Cup.

They also didn’t have a good seam bowling all-rounder who can give the right balance to the team.

8. The form of some players like M Rahman, M Riyad, T Ahmed, etc

The form of some of the big players like M Rahman, M Riyad, M Rahim, T Ahmed, etc is a bit of a concern for the Bangladesh cricket team.

T Ahmed was outstanding in the South Africa series away from home. He helped Bangladesh to win the first-ever ODI series in South Africa. He was approached by the IPL franchises for the IPL as well. But after that, his form has a slight dip and the team has to look into this closely.

9. Lack of power hitters in the team

Bangladesh didn’t have power hitters in the team whom they can rely on when the chips are down.

They need someone who can come and play a good quick-fire cameo to get the momentum back into the side.

Bangladesh needs to find some reliable power hitters before the Mens T20 World Cup. These are the few points that we mentioned for the Bangladesh cricket team before the World Cup. What do you think of these? Comment your opinion and keep reading the articles for the latest sports-related updates.
