Babar Azam Breaks Silence On His Poor Performance

Babar Azam Breaks Silence about his poor performance: Pakistan’s former captain’s opinion

Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam breaks silence on his recent batting style and the struggles he has been facing in the BPL 2024. In the ongoing 10th season of the Bangladesh Premier League, Babar Azam is currently representing his team Rangpur Riders.

At present, the Rangpur Riders are ranked at the 4th position in the BPL 2024 points table, by winning 3 out of 5 matches in the tournament with 6 points and +0.668 Net-Run-Rate (NRR). Babar Azam as an opening batsman for his team contributed a decent performance.

Babar Azam scored 157 runs in just 4 innings with an average of 52.33 and a strike rate of 112.95. It includes two half-centuries with his highest score of 62 runs against Durdanto Dhaka.

In the previous year, Pakistan’s right-handed batsman managed to score over 1000 runs. At the same time, he could only score 320 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup tournament.

Also, Babar Azam’s performance in the recent tour of New Zealand was impressive only in the initial stages by scoring these runs in the 5-match T20I series in January 2024:

  1. First T20I: 57 runs from 35 balls (including 6 fours and 2 sixes)
  2. Second T20I: 66 runs from 43 balls (including 7 fours and 2 sixes)
  3. Third T20I: 58 runs from 37 balls (including 8 fours and 1 six)
  4. Fourth T20I: 19 runs from 11 balls (including 2 fours and 1 six)
  5. Fifth T20I: 13 runs from 24 balls (including 1 four)

In the 4th and 5th T20I matches, Babar Azam’s gloomy performance with the bat received severe criticism despite scoring three consecutive half-centuries in the series. Moreover, Pakistan avoided a complete whitewash as New Zealand won the series with 4-1.

Babar Azam Breaks Silence: Expresses his dissatisfaction with his batting style

By expressing his dissatisfaction, Babar Azam breaks silence on his current performance in the BPL 2024:

“There are many milestones that I have to accomplish in my career. Currently, I am not satisfied with the position where I am. When I fail, I discuss it with many people and it helps me to learn from my mistakes.

Particularly, the quality spin bowler poses a new challenge in the BPL. I try to adapt to the different conditions wherever I perform. By staying on the wicket to build a partnership, I ensure to make a 100% effort. Though Youngblood is a good concept in T20 cricket, an experienced player should be accompanied.”

Furthermore, Babar Azam shares some crucial facts about Pakistan’s recent defeat in the test series against Australia with a clean sweep of 0-3:

“One more thing I would like to share about the recent test series. Only an experienced player could understand how to handle pressure and play accordingly.

Most often, Asian players find it challenging in countries like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and England. The only solution is to prepare for both bounce and money”

Babar Azam scored only 126 runs in the 3-match test series with his highest score of 41 runs and an average of 26.00.

Additionally, Babar Azam revealed his batting strengths by highlighting his cover drive skills:

“My confidence gets boosted by playing this shot. It is none other than the cover drive which I am talking about. This shot is one of my main strengths. Over the years I have worked very hard to play the cover drive. Now I consider that I became an expert playing with the shot to a certain extent.”

Babar Azam Breaks Silence about his batting style: Overall facts

Earlier, Babar Azam as the Pakistan cricket team’s captain had to undergo a challenging phase during the Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023.

Following his below-par performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 and his team’s exit without qualifying for the knockout stages, the PCB relieved him from captaincy across all the formats of cricket.

Subsequently, his poor performance continued in the test series against Australia as a non-captain.

Pakistan’s poor performance continued, despite, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) making these huge changes:

  • Mohammed Hafeez became the director of the Pakistan National Cricket Team.
  • Wahab Riaz taking the responsibility of Pakistan cricket team’s chief selector
  • Shan Masood became the new test captain.
  • Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the new T20I captain.

Recently, Babar Azam’s highest score in BPL 2024 of 62 runs from 46 balls( including 5 fours and 1 six), helped Rangpur Riders secure a massive victory against Durdanto Dhaka by 79 runs.

Earlier, Babar’s half-century of 56 runs from 49 balls( including 6 fours) along with Azmatullah Omarzai’s 47-run knock guided his team to a steady run chase of 125 runs in 18.2 overs. As a result, Rangpur Riders won by 4 wickets against Sylhet Strikers.

Interestingly, the 29-year-old Paksitani cricketer is inching closer to the landmark of 10,000 runs in his T20 career. Meanwhile, the batsman is just 168 runs away to reach the important milestone in his career. Perhaps, Babar Azam in his recent conversation indirectly conveyed this milestone, by saying that he has many to achieve in his career in the coming days.

Despite his performance being better compared to the previous year, Babar Azam breaks silence by expressing the challenges he faces batting on overseas pitches.
