Asia Cup 2025: Aakash Chopra Predicts Bangladesh’s Playing XI and Their Group-Stage Exit!

Former Indian cricketer and current commentator, Aakash Chopra, expressed his opinion on Bangladesh’s possible playing XI combination for the Asia Cup 2025.

The 47-year-old predicts that Bangladesh’s bowling unit could be the team’s biggest strength heading into the 17th edition of the tournament. At the same time, he has forecasted an early exit for Litton Das and his men.

Scrutinizing Aakash’s chosen XI reveals his reasoning on why Bangladesh won’t progress beyond the group stages.

Aakash Chopra’s Predicted Strongest Starting XI for Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2025

Aakash Chopra’s selected playing XI features wicketkeeper-batters (3), full-time batters (2), spin bowling all-rounders (3), and full-time pacers (2):

Pace Bowling Attack: Bangladesh’s Core Strength in Asia Cup 2025?

Aakash Chopra is confident that Bangladesh’s pace bowling attack will be their key weapon to success in the Asia Cup 2025. With the likes of experienced pacers like Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, the Tigers can offer tough competition to the opponent teams.

Also, the pitches in the UAE typically favor seamers, which could turn out to be a boon for Bangladesh.

Is Aakash Chosen Playing XI Perfectly Balanced with Youth and Experience?

Aakash Chopra chose a properly balanced playing XI integrated with a mix of young and seasoned cricketers.

While Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon, as the opening batters, are expected to provide fierce starts, Litton Das takes charge of batting at the No.3 spot.

Towhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain Patwari are set to perform as the middle-order batters. Although there are three wicketkeeping options, Chopra prefers Jaker Ali as the first choice, who will bat at the No.6 spot.

Considering the all-rounder’s department, Shak Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain are expected to provide balance in the batting and bowling line-up as the reliable spin-bowling all-rounders.

Finally, the playing XI is completed with the fiercest trio of pacers, namely Taskin Ahmad, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Aakash’s Chosen XI: A Strong Start for Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2025?

Despite Bangladesh’s unpredictable performance in high-profile tournaments, Aakash Chopra believes that the current squad, mixed with youth and experienced stars, can deliver exceptional performance under pressure.

However, Chopra’s chosen XI fuels expectation for the Tigers to make a strong start in their Asia Cup 2025 campaign opener against Hong Kong on September 11 (Thursday).

‘Bangladesh to End their Campaign in Group Stages’: Aakash Chopra

Despite deciding on a formidable playing XI that comprises a strong pace bowling attack, Aakash Chopra points out Bangladesh’s higher chances of facing a group-stage exit in the Asia Cup 2025.

Here are the main reasons shared by the ex-Indian batter that explain why Bangladesh might not qualify for the Super 4s of the tournament:

1. Batting Unit’s Too Much Dependence on Litton Das:

Chopra believes that Bangladesh’s batting line-up is highly reliant on Litton Das in T20Is, which could turn out to be their main weakness in the Asia Cup 2025:

“See! The overdependence on Litton Das can prove to be the main weakness for Bangladesh in 20I cricket. There is no doubt that Litton is a quality player. But he is a mediocre performer. So far, he hasn’t made the best use of his abilities.

Currently, he is the captain of the T20I squad. So, the team will certainly rely on him. But too much dependence on him could backfire on their plans. This is because they have a track record of choking in big tournaments,” Chopra said.

2. Lack of Aggressive Approach from the Batting Line-Up:

Aakash Chopra believes that only a few Bangladeshi batters batted at a strike rate of 150, and the entire batting unit lacks an aggressive intent as they might target only a 160 to 180-run total:

“Yes! Just look at the stats in 2025. There are only a few batters in the Bangladesh team whose strike rate nears 150. Just one or two of them maintain a strike rate above 140.

The fact is that Bangladesh is a team that targets 210 to 220 or more. They are very comfortable with 160 to 180 run total on the board. Suppose the opponent team’s strong batting line-up takes a hit, their bowling line-up will be left clueless,” Chopra added.

3. Heavy Competition in Group Stages:

Bangladesh, placed in Group B, is certain to face tough competition against the sub-continental teams like Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

So, Aakash predicts that even if the Tigers have a positive start by winning against Hong Kong, they would have a tough time securing victories against the Lankans and Afghans. Here is what Chopra had to explain on his official YouTube Channel:

“Possibly! They have nothing to lose when we discuss their opportunities. But if they perform well, then it is easy for them to gain the entire world.

However, they haven’t been performing well in the multi-national tournaments for a long time. It is a fact to accept that Bangladesh used to perform better than expected. They knocked us (the Indian cricket team) back in the 2007 ODI World Cup.

In recent times, they have been taking part in big tournaments, but aren’t the strong contenders. Although there are endless opportunities, the harsh truth is that it won’t be easy.

It would be wrong to underestimate any team in T20 cricket. I believe Bangladesh will struggle a lot, and their campaign might end in the group stages. So, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka might qualify from the group into the Super 4s,” Aakash explained.

In summary, it is a challenge for Litton Das and his men to overcome the obstacles in the Group stages and silence Aakash Chopra’s criticism by qualifying for the Super 4s and final match of the Asia Cup 2025.
