A Record of 8000 Runs is of Tamim Iqbal in ODIs

Tamim Iqbal, the stylish left-handed opener has completed 8000 runs in ODI cricket. He has reached the milestone in 229 matches.

Bangladesh was playing against Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series. When they were playing the first game, Bangladeshi captain Tamim Iqbal reached the milestone of 8000 runs in ODI cricket and becomes the 33rd player in the history of ODI cricket to reach that milestone. He is also the first player in Bangladesh to score 8000+ runs in ODI cricket.

Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe 2022

Bangladesh made 303 for the loss of 2 wickets in the first inning. Zimbabwe chased down the target with 5 wickets and 10 balls remaining. S Raza and I Kaia made hundreds and help Zimbabwe to get over the line.

Although Bangladesh lost the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, Tamim Iqbal achieved the milestone in that series. In those three matches against Zimbabwe, captain Tamim Iqbal scored 62, 50, and 19 in the series.

Having played the first ODI in 2007 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club, he has played 231 ODIs since then.

When he made 88 balls 62 in the first ODI against Zimbabwe recently, he becomes the first player to complete the 8000 runs mark. It was his 54th ODI fifty.

Tamim Iqbal also surpassed Australian M Clarke in terms of runs in ODI cricket. M Clarke has scored 7981 runs in ODI cricket. He also surpassed New Zealand’s S Fleming in the recent ODI series against Zimbabwe when he made 50 in the 2nd ODI.

Tamim Iqbal also completes 3000 runs in away ODIs

He also completed 3000+ runs in away ODI matches in international cricket when he made  62 in the first ODI.

Till now, Tamim Iqbal has made 3126 runs in away ODIs (opposition teams’ home ground) with an average of 39. He scored 7 hundred and 20 fifties away from home.

At home, he made 3841 runs at an average of 38.41 and made 7 tons and 26 half centuries. On neutral venues, he made 1107 runs at an average of almost 30 and made 8 half centuries.

Tamim Iqbal also becomes the player to hit most fours in Bangladesh Zimbabwe ODI clashes. He hit more than 180+ boundaries against Zimbabwe.

Tamim Iqbal Career Stats

Test Cricket

He made his test debut against New Zealand at University Oval in 2008. Since then, he has played 69 test matches and scored 5082 runs at an average of almost 40. His strike rate is 58.07 and he has scored 10 hundreds and 31 fifties in these 69 matches. His highest score in test cricket by him is 206 which was against Pakistan in 2015.

He is currently at No. 40 in the ICC Test Rankings of batsmen. Tamim Iqbal played his last test against West Indies on June 24, 2022, at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. He made 46 and 4 in the two innings of the test match.

ODI Cricket

He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2007 at Harare Sports club.

Since then, he has played 231 ODIs since then and made 8074 runs at an average of 37. He has made 55 fifties and 14 hundreds in ODI with a strike rate of 78.66. His highest score in this format is 158 which was against Zimbabwe in 2019.

He is at No. 16 in the ICC ODI Rankings of batsmen right now. Tamim Iqbal played his last ODI against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on August 10, 2022. It was the only game Bangladesh managed to win in the three match series.

T20 Cricket

He played his first T20I in 2007 against Kenya in Gymkhana Club Ground. Since then, he has played 78 T20Is and made 1758 runs at an average of 24 and a strike rate of 117. He has made 7 fifties and a hundred in those 78 matches. His highest score in this format is 103 against Oman in 2016.

He is now retired from T20Is. Tamim Iqbal played his last T20I in March 20220 against Zimbabwe at Shere Bangla National Stadium. He made 41 off 33 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Bangladesh won that game by 48 runs.

 So, this is the achievement for Tamim Iqbal in ODI cricket. He is one of the most elegant batters in world cricket and we hope to see more of him in ODIs and Test Cricket in the future. We congratulate him and wish for him to do well in the future as well.

Bangladesh will now play the Asia Cup in UAE which will be in a T20 format. Tamim Iqbal will not play as he is retired from this format.
